Demand for scary television content remains extremely high even though Halloween has officially passed. Streaming platforms are heavily investing in new and returning genre series to satisfy enthusiastic horror audiences. Amazon Prime Video officially renewed “Carrie” for a second season following strong viewer metrics. Meanwhile, Peacock scored a massive debut with “Crystal Lake,” and HBO Max dropped a surprise episode of “It: Welcome to Derry.” New seasons of “Alien: Earth,” “Interview with the Vampire,” and the Emmy-winning horror comedy “Widow’s Bay” are also in active production. “The Invited” now joins the list of must-see shows.

Get Out Producers Tackle Gothic Terror

Multiple high-profile horror projects remain in active development across major network and streaming platforms. Now, the acclaimed producers behind Get Out are developing a brand-new supernatural mystery series, “The Invited.” Inspired by the bestselling gothic novels of author Wendy Webb, the show aims to become the next atmospheric hit.

Constructing an Interconnected Haunted Universe

Screenwriters Helen Black and Jeff Howard are co-creating the upcoming mystery thriller series. Howard previously earned widespread critical praise for writing and producing Mike Flanagan’s “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Midnight Mass.”  Both of which are absolutely fantastic. Rather than adapting a single book, the series draws from Webb’s collective body of work to build an interconnected cinematic world. Husband-and-wife production team Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick acquired the rights through Impossible Dream Entertainment. The duo is collaborating alongside British production company Wall to Wall to develop the series.

Adapting The End of Temperance Dare

The inaugural season will specifically adapt Webb’s acclaimed 2017 novel, The End of Temperance Dare. Set in the fictional haunted lakeside town of Wharton, the story centers on a former tuberculosis sanatorium turned quiet art retreat. Supernatural horror mysteries erupt inside the historic facility as dark secrets from the past resurface.

Author Wendy Webb expressed immense excitement regarding the creative team assembled to bring her gothic suspense novels to television screens. Industry insiders expect major streaming platforms to bid aggressively for distribution rights as development continues.

“When Shaun Redick, one of the producers of the stunning Get Out— which I saw three times in the theater — contacted me about adapting my work into a series, I had to sit, staring into space, for a good long while. When he told me Jeff Howard, a writer and producer of Midnight Mass and Haunting of Hill House — which I have binged-watched more times than I care to admit — was involved, life got a little surreal. Then, I met the brilliant Helen Black, and I started bragging to whoever would listen. I am honored and privileged beyond measure to be working with these geniuses of the genre to bring my books to life.”
