In October, we reported that a film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Monkey was coming. Today, we have an update. News has come that the film from brilliant director Oz Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter) has quietly wrapped production.

The Cast Revealed

Previously announced as the lead, Theo James is joined by Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings). Rounding out the ensemble are Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy.

A Twist on the Familiar

In the tale, twin brothers grapple with a terrifying cymbal-banging monkey toy from childhood. This seemingly innocent object unleashes gruesome deaths, forcing the brothers, with a fractured relationship, to confront the source of the horror and destroy the toy for good.

A Seasoned Horror Director at the Helm

Osgood “Oz” Perkins, known for his chilling directorial work, promises to deliver another heart-pounding horror experience. With his latest project, Longlegs, starring Nicolas Cage, hitting theaters in July, Perkins continues to solidify his reputation as a genre master. Perkins is not the only horror icon involved with the film; genre heavy-hitter James Wan is producing it.

The Wait for Release Begins

With filming complete, the anticipation for The Monkey grows. But it’s not alone. The film joins two other completed Stephen King adaptations (Salem’s Lot and The Life of Chuck) currently in the post-production queue. Release dates for all three films remain shrouded in mystery at this time.

Stay Tuned

Stay tuned for updates! In the meantime, The Monkey promises to be a chilling addition to the Stephen King cinematic universe, boasting a talented cast and a director with a knack for crafting unsettling horror experiences.
