If you’re the type of person who gets nervous when the Wi-Fi drops, Uncork’d Entertainment has a new reason for you to fear the dark. Blackout is set to short-circuit your sense of reality when it hits Digital and On Demand platforms this May.
The Lights Go Out, the Nightmare Begins
Written and directed by Shane Aquino (Road Dogs), the film takes a simple premise and twists it into a sci-fi psychological thriller. After a sudden power outage, the world doesn’t just lose its lights—it loses its mind.
The survivors wake up to a world of “eternal night.” One in which each individual is trapped in their own isolated reality. Just as everyone is getting used to the total lack of a sun, a group of mysterious figures called The Ushers appears. They claim they can lead the survivors to “the end.” But only if they’re willing to make a final, irreversible choice.
Pro tip: In a horror movie, the “final choice” usually doesn’t involve a gift card.
The Faces in the Dark
Mike Ferguson stars alongside Twana Barnett, the actor and pro wrestler, who brings some physical muscle to the psychological mayhem. Then there’s Riley Ryan making her feature debut as Suzanna.
A Fractured Reality
Blackout blends the eerie isolation of a blackout with high-concept sci-fi, focusing on the “in-between” spaces where reality starts to fray at the edges. It’s a haunting look at what happens when the safety net of the modern world is yanked away and replaced by something much older and much hungrier.
The Bottom Line: Keep your flashlights handy and your existential dread high. Blackout arrives May 5.
