It’s been nearly 30 years since we first learned that putting a lime in a coconut solves most of life’s problems. Now, the Owens sisters are officially pre-heating the oven for another round of chocolate cake for breakfast. Warner Bros. has confirmed that Practical Magic 2 is officially arriving in theaters this summer.
The news is “practically” perfect, largely because the studio pulled off the ultimate summoning spell: both Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are returning as Sally and Gillian Owens.
The Coven is Growing
While the original 1998 film was a masterclass in sisterly bonding and accidental necromancy, the sequel is expanding the family tree. Here is what we know about the cast and crew:
Along with Bullock and Kidman, the iconic aunts: Stockard Channing (Aunt Frances) and Dianne Wiest (Aunt Jet). They are officially back to provide more questionable life advice and top-tier broomstick etiquette. Joining the cast are Joey King and Maisie Williams, who will portray Sally’s now-grown daughters, Kylie and Antonia. The ensemble is rounded out by Lee Pace, playing a scholar named Harlan Vex, alongside Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod.
Director Susanne Bier (Bird Box) is taking over the directorial duties, working from a script by Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film.
What is the Plot?
The sequel is reportedly based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 follow-up novel, The Book of Magic. According to the latest teaser, the Owens women are still grappling with that pesky family curse—the one where the men they love have a habit of dying untimely deaths.
With a fresh trailer already racking up millions of views and Sandra Bullock making her long-awaited Instagram debut to toast a “magically appearing” margarita, the hype is very real. Dust off your pointed hats—September 2026 is going to be enchanting.
Release the Magic
Warner Bros. recently shuffled the deck, moving the US theatrical debut up by a week to get a head start on the spooky season. Now, Practical Magic 2 will cast a spell on you on September 11, 2026.
