Forget the brunch reservations and the overpriced mimosas. This Mother’s Day, the only thing being served is ancient, vengeful dread. The trailer for the latest supernatural horror, The Voices of Our Mother, from filmmaker Mark O’Brien, has arrived. And proves that some family ties are better left severed.

A Family Reunion from Hell

The story follows Harriet Scaflen, who has just buried her own mother. However, the mourning period is cut short. A sudden health crisis sends Harriet into a tailspin.

Naturally, her four estranged children come scurrying back to the family home, ostensibly to “care” for her. But as the floorboards creak and past animosities surface, the siblings realize that Mom’s condition isn’t something a doctor can fix. There is an awoken evil living inside her, and it doesn’t want hospice—it wants survival, and it’s looking at her children as the primary source of nutrients.

Mark O’Brien’s Horror Streak

If the name Mark O’Brien sounds familiar, it’s because he’s currently one of the busiest men in Hollywood. Whether he’s going toe-to-toe with Simu Liu in Peacock’s “The Copenhagen Test” or navigating the gritty landscapes of “City on a Hill” and “Perry Mason,” O’Brien has established himself as a versatile powerhouse. But it’s behind the camera where he truly lets his dark side shine:

In this latest project, O’Brien pulls triple duty as director, screenwriter, and star, ensuring the film maintains the same “lived-in” psychological intensity that has become his cinematic calling card.

Cast & Crew

This chilling tale stars Mark O’Brien, Sheila McCarthy, Georgina Reilly, Carolina Bartczak, Alex Ozerov-Meyer, and Anna Ferguson. Executive producers include Jesse Ikeman, Nataline Rodrigues, and Bill Marks.

Why Watch It?

This isn’t your typical “cabin in the woods” slasher. It’s a claustrophobic exploration of generational trauma, where the “monster” is a physical manifestation of a family’s buried secrets. If you’ve ever felt like your parents were sucking the life out of you, this film is going to feel very, very relatable. Get ready to witness the terror. The Voices of Our Mother debuts on Shudder on June 19, 2026.
