If you thought your dating life was a horror movie, just be glad you aren’t Bear. Director Curry Barker‘s horror movie, Obsession, is currently terrorizing audiences and making everyone rethink their relationship boundaries. The movie, now in theaters, has already racked up a staggering 96% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Simp-to-Psycho Pipeline

The plot centers on Bear (Michael Johnston). He is a lonely music store employee who is trapped so deep in the friend zone with Nikki (Inde Navarrette) that he can’t even see the light of day. Instead of doing normal things like “downloading Tinder” or “going to therapy,” Bear finds a mysterious, aggressively creepy toy and uses it to make a supernatural wish to win Nikki’s heart.

Because this is a Blumhouse film and not a 90s Rom-Com, the universe immediately gives Bear a masterclass in buyer’s remorse. His wish is granted, but the results lean significantly more toward “frantic sprint for survival” than “happily ever after.” It turns out using cursed toy to manipulate human emotion carries a very heavy, very violent hidden fee.

Alongside Johnston and Navarrette, actors Darius Marcell and Julian Works do a phenomenal job of navigating a world where a love story rapidly spirals out of control.

Do NOT Text This Girl: The Ultimate Interactive Gimmick

Blumhouse didn’t just leave the horror on the big screen; they brought it straight to your data plan. As part of a brilliantly unhinged marketing campaign, you can actually text Nikki yourself.

📱 The Stalker Hotline: If you text 724-876-4554, you’ll instantly strike up a conversation with Nikki, who has officially gone off the deep end. She will send you custom, reactive voice messages based on whatever you type. Just a heads up: she gets attached very quickly, and your inbox might become her next Obsession.

Why Everyone Is Obsessed

Obsession completely revamps the “creepy object.” And If texting a fictional psychopath isn’t enough, fans can also get their hands on their very own One Wish Willow replica toy. It’s the perfect gift for that friend who doesn’t understand red flags.

Obsession is a relentless, fast-paced look at the absolute worst-case scenario of getting exactly what you asked for. It’s out in theaters nationwide right now. So, skip the dinner date, silence your phone (seriously, Nikki might text), and check it out.
