Frendo is dusting off his oversized shoes and heading back to the stalks for a sequel. Temple Hill Entertainment has officially confirmed (via Fangoria) that Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives is in development.
Production is slated to kick off later this year. And get this: screenwriters Hudson Morgan and Will Lowell are tapping into the second entry of author Adam Cesare’s fan-favorite slasher book series. However, there is no word yet, but fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Eli Craig returns to the director’s chair. Right now, he’s busy working on his holiday horror flick, White Elephant.
Conspiracies, Frat Parties, and Killer Clowns
While the official film synopsis is still under wraps, the story is expected to follow Cesare’s second novel closely.
Having barely survived the Kettle Springs massacre, Quinn is now just trying to live a quiet, normal life during her first year of college. The universe, however, has other plans. Quinn finds herself the target of unhinged internet conspiracy theorists claiming the massacre was a staged hoax.
The online nonsense turns dead serious when a Frendo-masked killer attacks Quinn at a college frat party. However, a second clown targets her father back in Kettle Springs at the same time. Logic won’t save her. Quinn has to march right back into the cornfield where the nightmare started to set the record straight: this time, the hard way.
Katie Douglas played the resilient Quinn in the first installment, and while casting hasn’t been locked in, it’s hard to imagine the franchise’s ultimate Final Girl sitting this fight out.
A Low-Budget Slasher Juggernaut
Frendo’s big-screen return was practically guaranteed. The first film turned a tiny $1 million production budget into nearly $14 million worldwide. Then it went on to find a massive second life on Shudder.
And the corn-fed chaos isn’t stopping with movies. Adam Cesare is expanding the literary universe even further with Lights! Camera! Frendo!, the fourth book in the series, hitting shelves and audiobooks on August 18, which sends the iconic killer straight to Hollywood.
