Hold onto your holy water and rosary beads! The first look at The Conjuring: Last Rites has finally materialized. It promises a terrifying conclusion to Ed and Lorraine Warren’s journey.
Entertainment Weekly has delivered a spine-chilling bounty for fans, unveiling exclusive first-look images, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and even a haunting GIF that plays what sounds like the eerily familiar music box melody from the original The Conjuring. The GIF features the beloved paranormal investigating duo, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, reprising their iconic roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The First Look
Adding to the anticipation, Entertainment Weekly also shared an exclusive first-look featurette (watch it here) featuring Wilson, Farmiga, and returning director Michael Chaves. It offers a glimpse into the darkness that awaits. In the video, Chaves ominously describes Last Rites as “the darkest thing we’ve ever seen in the series,” a bold statement given the franchise’s history. Vera Farmiga chillingly adds fuel to the fear, stating, “This demon has a vendetta, and what it wants is very, very personal.” If these initial teases are anything to go by, we are in for a truly fright-filled and deeply personal chapter in the Warrens’ saga.
The Case
This time, Ed and Lorraine will be venturing into the terror plaguing the Smurl family. The film draws from real-life accounts. The New England Society of Psychic Research is now run by the Warrens’ daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tony Spera, who have detailed the events. Janet and Jack Smurl and their children moved into a duplex on Chase Street in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, in the 1970s. What began as a new chapter in their lives soon became a nightmare. The Smurls claimed to be victims of violent supernatural events, ranging from voices and ghostly apparitions to terrifying physical attacks.
A Talented Cast
The cast of The Conjuring: Last Rites is shaping up to be equally compelling. Mia Tomlinson joins the ensemble as Judy Warren, Ed and Lorraine’s now-grown daughter. Rebecca Calder stars as Janet Smurl, with Elliot Cowan playing her husband, Jack. Kíla Lord Cassidy, Tilly Walker, Beau Gadsdon, and Molly Cartwright will play their four daughters. Adding further depth to the family dynamic, Peter Wight and Kate Fahy will portray Jack’s parents.
Coming This Summer
