Apple TV has just released the first look and confirmed the official launch schedule for its upcoming crime thriller series, “The Wanted Man.” SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Hugh Laurie stars as the lead and serves as an executive producer. Developed by creator, writer, and showrunner George Kay, the eight-part series represents a joint production effort between New Pictures and Kay’s Observatory Pictures.
A Dark Story of Betrayal and Prison Survival
The narrative centers on Felix Carmichael, a formidable organized crime boss portrayed by Laurie. After a devastating betrayal from a trusted member of his own criminal enterprise, Carmichael is incarcerated in the notorious Staplehurst Prison. Surrounded by extreme danger and stripped of his usual influence, he must tap into his own violent tendencies merely to survive behind bars. With his family’s safety, his business empire, and his personal fortune hanging in the balance, Carmichael determines that his only path forward is to engineer an unprecedented prison escape.
A Highly Decorated Ensemble and Creative Team
The upcoming drama features a prominent ensemble cast performing alongside Laurie. The series stars Emmy, SAG, and BAFTA Award winner Thandiwe Newton and Dunkirk actor Fionn Whitehead. They are joined by BAFTA Award winner Gina McKee. The supporting cast is further bolstered by Hazel Doupe, Elliott Heffernan, and “Game of Thrones” alumnus Stephen Dillane. Showrunner George Kay executive produces alongside Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford, with David Meanti serving as series producer. Emmy Award nominee Jakob Verbruggen directs all eight episodes.

Hugh Laurie is a celebrated English actor, comedian, and musician. He first gained fame in British comedy classics like Blackadder before achieving worldwide stardom as Dr. Gregory House in “House,” earning a Golden Globe.
In addition to acclaimed performances in dramas like The Night Manager. Laurie is an accomplished blues singer, pianist, and guitarist with several successful studio albums. That includes Let Them Talk (2011) and Didn’t It Rain (2013). And I’ll be honest, I own both. His rendition of “St. James Infirmary” is a personal favorite.
Expanding Apple TV’s Original Drama Slate
“The Wanted Man” adds another high-profile title to Apple TV’s growing library of original programming. Since launching in November 2019, the service has accumulated thousands of award nominations and hundreds of wins.
The high-stakes thriller will debut on Wednesday, January 6, 2027. It will launch with two opening episodes, then transition to a weekly Wednesday release schedule through February 17, 2027.
