America’s favorite bright-orange unicorn is returning to the big screen for a special interactive theatrical event. Following a massive box office run, Roadside Attractions and Saban Films have announced Buddy: The Sing-Along Version. It arrives in theaters nationwide on Friday, October 2.
The special release features on-screen lyrics for all of the film’s signature tracks. It encourages audiences to dress in costume, sing along, and transform screenings into an immersive event. Fan-favorite musical numbers like “It’s Buddy!,” “You’ve Got to Be Scared to Be Brave,” and “The Wrong Place in Town” will take center stage for the limited engagement.
Red Carpet Gala Premiere Sells Out in Hours
To kick off the nationwide release, a “Biggest Night Out Gala Premiere” will take place on Tuesday, September 29, at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale, California. Tickets for the exclusive orange carpet event sold out within three hours of being announced on the film’s social media channels.
The premiere will feature an appearance by Buddy himself alongside director Casper Kelly, co-stars Delaney Quinn, Madison Skyy Polan, CJ Williams, and Luke Speakman, who will join fans inside the historic cinema for the premiere sing-along experience.
A Twisted Take on Children’s Television
Directed by Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks) and co-written with Jamie King (Jessica Jones), Buddy centers on the bright orange unicorn star of a beloved children’s television series. Inside the set of It’s Buddy!, a group of children spends their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to participate, Buddy’s cheerful facade fractures, spiraling the seemingly wholesome world into an R-rated nightmare.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Cristin Milioti, Patton Oswalt, Michael Shannon, Topher Grace, Keegan-Michael Key, and Delaney Quinn.

A Historical Box Office Milestone for Independent Cinema
The sing-along release follows an extraordinary theatrical run. Crossing $25 million at the box office over five weeks, Buddy is the year’s highest-grossing release for a film opening on fewer than 1,800 screens.
The R-rated horror-comedy is the highest-grossing theatrical release in Saban Films’ history. For distributor Roadside Attractions, Buddy has officially become the third-highest-grossing film in the company’s history. It even surpasses the Academy Award-winning Judy and trails only I Can Only Imagine and Manchester by the Sea.
