It’s been a busy week for Blumhouse. It has been announced that a new video game adaptation is in the works, along with a plethora of gaming news, and the acquisition of half the Saw franchise. Now, news has come that the sequel, Ma 2, is in development.
“Ma has proven to be a social phenomenon since its release in 2019, with fans eagerly embracing the film and Octavia’s iconic performance as Ma. Ma likes to say ‘don’t make me drink alone,’ so we’re thrilled Octavia will join us again for a second round,” said Blumhouse Founder/CEO Jason Blum.
If you remember the chilling 2019 original, Ma offers the basement of her home as a party spot for some local teens. But her hospitality quickly curdles into a terrifying obsession, turning what seemed like a teenage dream into a nightmarish ordeal. The film was a hit, earning over $60 million at the global box office. The movie also starred Missi Pyle, Luke Evans, Juliette Lewis, Allison Janney, McKaley Miller, and Kyanna Simone Simpson.
There’s no word yet on whether director Tate Taylor or writer Scotty Landes will be back for the sequel, but with Octavia Spencer returning, you know it’s going to be wild!
We’ll keep you updated as more details become available for Ma 2. In the meantime, you can revisit or watch Ma for the first time now on FXNow, Netflix, and on Prime Video. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
