Festival Acclaim and Production Team
The film earned significant recognition across the international film festival circuit throughout the year. For instance, it secured the Audience Award for Narrative Feature at Dances With Films. The project also won the prestigious Jury Prize Feature at the Manchester Film Festival. Scott Tinkham and Michael Woloson co-wrote and co-directed the feature film. Additionally, executive producer Haley Nicole Johnson led the creative team alongside Joey Bader and Al Baker. Producers Oliver Woolf and Kaylee McGregor also supported the independent production.
A Surreal Countryside Nightmare
Set during a mysterious global war, the story follows two disoriented survivors seeking refuge. Liam and Mel arrive bloodied and speechless at an isolated English countryside cottage. An enigmatic caretaker named Chester takes the pair into his home. Chester bathes, feeds, and patiently teaches the traumatized survivors how to speak again. Meanwhile, distant sirens, thick smoke, and ominous external threats press closer and closer.
Rules and Resistance in Isolation
The survivors slowly relearn simple daily tasks within Chester’s tightly controlled domestic environment. Good behavior earns special tokens that unlock small comforts like karaoke and hot tub time. However, Mel remains deeply suspicious of the strict physical boundaries surrounding the rural cottage. She grows increasingly obsessed with the locked outer gate and the dense forest beyond it. Her relentless curiosity inevitably shatters the fragile peace of their makeshift family.
Creative Visions Behind the Camera
Scott Tinkham previously premiered his acclaimed short film at South by Southwest. His distinct directorial work skillfully blends dark comedy with deep emotional sincerity. Meanwhile, co-director Michael Woloson brings precise visual artistry and intimate character framing to the project. Woloson previously served as cinematographer on Tinkham’s celebrated short film project. Both filmmakers are currently developing new feature projects under the Under The Shell banner.
