Nicolas Cage, the Oscar-winning star, may have found his next role. The actor is reportedly in talks to lead the next season of HBO’s hit anthology series, “True Detective.”
While the details are still under wraps, sources tell Variety that the deal is nearing finalization. If the deal goes through, Cage will be following in some big footsteps. The show features top-tier talent, including Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Mahershala Ali, and Jodie Foster. Foster, who starred in the critically acclaimed Season 4, took home an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role.
Season four centers on Chief Danvers (Foster). She struggles with alcoholism and promiscuity after losing her husband and young son. She finds herself working a strange case with a connection to the unsolved murder of an indigenous woman.
Navarro is played by professional fighter-turned-actress Kali Reis. She is burdened by the death of her mother and her sister’s struggle with Schizophrenia. Together, they struggle to solve the case.
Cage has starred in a wide range of films, from Con Air to Longlegs and The Surfer. Adding Nicolas Cage to the cast of “True Detective” feels like an excellent fit for a show known for its dark, complex characters. We can’t wait to see what he brings to the new season!
