Get ready for a new psychological thriller that’s going to get really dark. Freestyle Digital Media has acquired the rights to Unholy Communion and is set to release it in September.

A Chilling Story

The film’s plot is anything but holy. It follows a police officer named Chris Majek (Adam Bartley) who stumbles into a terrifying case: a series of priests are being murdered in rural Minnesota. But this isn’t a random killing spree. Each victim is found with a chilling message and forced to swallow a decade’s worth of rosary beads.

In the film, Chris discovers that the victims all share a dark past of clergy abuse. The deeper he digs, the more he realizes the whole town might be involved. The biggest shock comes when the trail leads back to his own best friend, Paul Thomas (Vincent Kartheiser), a popular local dentist.

Based on a novel by Dr. Thomas Rumreich, Unholy Communion is a gripping story about guilt, secrets, and the uncomfortable truth that can hide in plain sight.

Behind the Camera

The movie was written and directed by Patrick Coyle, known for his film Into Temptation. Coyle noted that when he was asked to adapt the novel, he was told it was “dark.” What he found was a story also filled with humanity and humor, which he feels makes it so compelling. Watch it when it becomes available on VOD on September 5, 2025
