, wWhen it comes to cancelled TV series, none is more beloved by horror fans than Bryan Fuller’s “Hannibal.” It’s unlikely that we will ever get another season, despite fans’ persistent requests. However, we will see a “Hannibal” reunion with Fuller’s upcoming feature film directorial debut, Dust Bunny. The series’ star, Mads Mikkelsen, who played Dr. Hannibal Lecter, will lead the cast.
A New Kind of Nightmare
Dust Bunny is described as a throwback to the horror films of the 1980s, blending childhood fears with adult terror and a touch of fantasy. The story centers on an eight-year-old girl. She’s convinced that a monster under her bed has consumed her family. She enlists the help of her mysterious neighbor to kill it. Mikkelsen plays the neighbor, a hitman who suspects the girl’s family may have been caught in the crossfire of an attempt on his own life. Driven by guilt, he agrees to help, setting them on a path to confront both literal and figurative monsters.
Incredible Talent
Joining him is David Dastmalchian, who starred in Late Night with the Devil, The Boogeyman, and “Dexter: Resurrection.” Another major star has joined the cast, Sigourney Weaver, who played the iconic role of Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise and starred in Ghostbusters. Rebecca Henderson (“Russian Doll,” “Westworld”) rounds out the cast.
Fuller will co-produce Dust Bunny with Entertainment One, Thunder Road, and Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. In addition to “Hannibal,” Fuller has an impressive history, being behind series such as “American Gods,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Dead Like Me,” and “Pushing Up Daisies.”
International Premiere and Release Date
Dust Bunny is set to have its international premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2025. It will be followed by a theatrical release on December 5, 2025.
