The trailer for the long awaited sequel to 1996’s Independence Day has just been released and Independence Day 2: Resurgence looks like it’s going to be everything we’ve hoped for and more.
Several on the original movies’ cast are returning for Resurgence, including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Sela Ward and Judd Hirsch, however Will Smith did not return for Independence Day 2. Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Joey King, Maika Monroe, Chalotte Gainsbourg, Brent Spiner, Hays Wellford, Ryan Cartwright, Grace Haung and Gbenga Akinnagbe will star along side the original cast.
In the sequel the nations of Earth, using the alien’s technology, have built a defense system knowing that one day the aliens would return, but nothing has prepared them for the fight ahead.

Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. Independence Day 2: Resurgence will land in theaters on June 23rd, 2016. The next sequel in the Independence Day franchise is already in the works and is planned to be released in 2017.
