Filming of Sony’s adaption of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is now under way in New York. We have the first photos of Matthew McConaughey (Magic Mike) as the film’s villain “The Man in Black”.
McConaughey will co-star alongside Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) who plays the hero, Roland Deschain aka “The Gunslinger”.

Vikings star Katheryn Winnick, Mad Max actress Abbey Lee, Tom Taylor, Preacher’s Jackie Earl Haley, Claudia Kim, Nicholas Hamilton, Alex McGregor, and Fran Kranz round out the cast of The Dark Tower, directed by Nikolaj Arcel who co-wrote the script with Akiva Goldsman.
Stephen King’s novel follows Roland, Mid-World’s last gunslinger who travels across the post-apocalyptic landscape searching for The Dark Tower, the nexus of point of the time-space continuum, located in the fey region of End-World. The film’s official synopsis has not been released.
The Dark Tower is set to open in theaters on February 16th of next year.
