Here we are, my Little Monsters, not even two full days away from Friday October 13th. We only experience a Friday the 13th in October every six or seven years, depending on whether it’s a leap year, so I figured I would take this opportunity to celebrate a wonderful Final Girl of the Friday the 13th franchise by offering up a prize to be given away on Friday the 13th. As horror fans we have all experienced, albeit vicariously, the ordeal required to survive Friday the 13th and be the Final Girl of her respective chapter. So let’s take a look back at the harrowing experience of one miss Ginny Fields.
Friday the 13th Part 2 took us all back to Crystal Lake…well, to a camp near it actually. This is where we met Ginny Fields, who was played by Amy Steel. She was one out of a group of counselors, who were making preparations to a summer camp in close proximity to Camp Crystal Lake. One night she and some of the counselors decided to go out for the night to blow off steam, before their grueling counselor training was to begin. Upon returning She and another counselor, Paul, see the devastation and death brought on by Jason. He then turns his murderous rage towards them during which time he chases after Ginny, who finds her way to Jason’s shack. There she finds his altar to his dead mother, complete with mommy’s severed head. Ginny dons Mrs. Voorhees’ old dirty sweater to trick Jason into thinking she is his mother, just before cleaving him through the shoulder with his own machete. She returns to her cabin, thinking Jason has followed her. Ginny braces herself with a pitchfork and waits with Paul for Jason to come through the door, only for him to attack by crashing through a window instead. Paul’s fate is left in the air, save for hers, as she awakens to find she is being loaded into an ambulance and Jason is nowhere to be found. Ginny may not be the FIRST in the line of “Final Girls”, but she is the first to truly face off against Jason.
I had the opportunity to meet Amy again, about a month ago, at HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis. It just so happens that I procured this particular prize at the convention with the specific intent to give it away to celebrate Friday October 13th. What is this prize of which I speak? It’s an autographed photo of Amy Steel…THAT’S ALL!!! So keep your eyes fixed on our Twitter page for this image to be posted.
As stated on the above image, contestants will need to have a valid U.S. mailing address, follow HorrorFuel on Twitter, like the post and also retweet it. Good luck everybody, because to survive Friday the 13th, we’re all going to need it.
