With Andy Muschietti’s remake of Stephen King’s IT smashing box office records at $666 million, it’s no surprise that the King adaptions are continuing to surface.
King’s Pet Sematary was first adapted back in 1989 by Mary Lambert. Now, Deadline is reporting that the writing-directing duo of Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, the team behind 2014’s Starry Eyes, are taking a stab at making a new version of the film.
Published in 1983, Pet Sematary follows Louis and Rachel Creed and their two young children. When Church, the family’s cat, is run over their neighbor tells them of the land beyond the pet cemetery where when things are buried they come back. Church did. And when Louis’ young son Gage is hit by a truck he buries him in that place, but sometimes, dead is better.
Steven Schneider and Lorenzo di Bonaventura have signed on to produce the project.
