Earlier this year, Syfy ordered the series adaptation of “Game of Thrones’ author George R. R. Martin’s 1980 novella “Nightflyers”, which had a film adaptation back in 1987.
Tracking Board reported today that Daniel Cerone, the “Nightflyers” showrunner has departed over creative difference. Buhler who penned the series and is executive producing has stepped into Cerone’s place.
“The drama, based on Martin’s 1980 novella and the 1987 film of the same name, follows eight scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of the solar system aboard the Nightflyer, a ship with a small tight-knit crew and a reclusive captain, in the hopes of making contact with alien life. But when terrifying events begin to take place, paranoia sets in and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone anticipated.”
The cast includes Gretchen Mol, Eion Macken, David Ajala, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Angus Sampson, Brian F. O’Byrne, and Jodie Turner-Smith.
Gene Klein, Jeff Buhler, and Gaeta Rosenzweig Films along with David Bartis and Doug Liman of Hypnotic are producing “Nightflyers” alongside Robert Jaffe who wrote and produced the 1987 film adaptation. Netflix will co-produce.
