I sat down with a hefty book for a nice afternoon of reading (Yes I DO read, I don’t play video games all the time!). I read through Brett Weiss’s “The SNES Omnibus: The Super Nintendo and Its Games, Vol. 1 (A–M)” from Schiffer Publishing. This coffee table book is amazing!
The book has more than 2,000 colored images showing off the majesty of over 350 SNES titles! What is amazing about this book is how much it’s a trip down memory lane for me. I did not play SNES growing up so I missed out on a lot of these games but I remember the box art and advertising posters when I would go rent movies!
A lot of the games in this book were based on TV shows I watched when I was younger and forgot about! Many of the titles shown will seem familiar to many as these were the first installments in current series played and loved by gamers today.
Each game you’re given the details about the year it came out, the type of game it was and who the publisher and developers were. There are write-ups about the games; some of them include a “Notable Quotable” from a reviewer from gaming websites.

Some of the games have an “Insider Insight” where the authors of these sections (who all come from different backgrounds but all love gaming) write about their experience with the game that’s mentioned.
This is volume one going from titles A-M, I’m looking forward to the next volumes! If the following volumes are just like this one, then this will be a collectors dream. The book is more of a nostalgic treasure map taking you back to your youth. This is a good book for gamers, collectors, and those who like to look back and have their memory jumpstarted.
