The 91st Acadamy Awards is set to air on February 24th. While there has been controversy over the award show’s plans to skip airing four categories, which the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have changed their mind about, there is something else about the awards we really need to discuss.
When it comes to categories, there are winners for everything from Best Picture to Sound Mixing to Hair and Makeup, but there’s one category has been missing for way too long, Best Stunt Actor. If someone can win an award for the best hair in a film, why the hell aren’t the people who put themselves in danger to make movies considered good enough to award? Every day these actors put their lives on the line to make films bigger and better, with several actually losing their lives over the past few years.
Think about what your favorite movies would be like without stunt people doing falls from great heights, doing car chases, actors being set on fire, being in fight sequences, experiencing explosions, jumping from building to building. If anyone deserves to win it’s these people.
It’s time the Acadamy shine a spotlight on these movie heroes. Don’t you think? There is currently a petition circulating to get a category added. If you will, sign it and send a message to the Acadamy to urge them to add a new category to next year’s Acadamy Awards.
