Let me get this out of the way, I am fully aware that Nobody isn’t a horror movie, but I watched it and I have to share my thoughts on it, so read on or exit, your choice.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller and written by Derek Kolstad, Nobody stars Emmy Award-winner Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”) as Hutch, a family man who is drifting apart from his wife and nobody respects him. They have no idea who he used to be. After a home invasion, Hutch is at rock bottom until his daughter tells him the thieves took her bracelet which flips a switch in him, and he sets off on a mission to retrieve it. This is when we learn the mild-mannered father is actually a badass who used to kill for the government. After beating the hell out of a group of guys he learns that one is the brother of a Russian gangster who now wants revenge. The gangster makes the mistake of going after Hutch’s family but he has no clue who he’s messing with, “Nobody”.

Move over Jason Statham, there’s a new badass in town and he’s rocking a dad bod and he’s got more balls than the NBA! Nobody surprised the hell out of me. I didn’t know Odenkirk had it in him, but mark me as impressed!

The action is off the charts, but what else would you expect from the writer of the John Wick franchise?  Between fantastic fight sequences, booby traps, bullets raining down by the buckets, and blood being spilled left and right, Nobody is the action movie you have to see this year!

Odenkirk isn’t the only badass in the movie, RZA doesn’t play with a sniper rifle. And can we please talk about Christopher Llyod blowing away the bad guys with a shotgun in each hand? I can not express how much I loved it!

Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t just a mindless gorefest, there’s a clever story too. In the beginning, you have to feel bad for this poor smuck who is beaten down by life, mistreated by his in-laws, his son thinks he’s a loser, and his wife is distant. He’s miserable. In the end, the message is that you have to be true to yourself to be truly happy, for this guy that happens to include beating strangers to death when they are being assholes or doing wrong. ‘

The end of the movie leaves things wide open for a sequel and I sincerely hope we get one. I would love to see Odenkirk kick more ass.

You can keep “The Rock.” You can keep Tom Cruise (please). Give me Bob Odenkirk! I’m not even playing, Nobody is one of the best movies I’ve watched in a very long time.  Get off your ass and go watch it, now! Luckily, it’s available on Digital and VOD, as well as 4K Ultra, Blu-ray, and DVD, from Universal Pictures. Don’t bother renting it, go buy it. You’re going to want to watch it again and again.
