In 2018, John Krasinski delivered A Quiet Place, which was hit with critics and viewers alike. Now, the sequel is coming to Blu-ray and DVD in just a few days.
A Quiet Place: Part Two begins by revealing what happened the day the creatures arrived, with the small town seeing balls of light in the sky falling to earth before the creatures suddenly appear to reak havoc on the town. The film then picks up right where the first movie left off with Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe leaving their home and facing the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond their sand path.
Sequels rarely live up to the original film, but that’s not the case with Part Two. We get a film that not only stands up to the original but may even surpass it. There is so much drama, heartbreak, struggle, strength, and determination this time around as the family encounters setback after setback but keeps fighting.
Part Two is a great film, but it’s not perfect. There were a few moments where some of the characters made absolutely stupid decisions, especially Noah who acts immature beyond his years, and after spending time in the new world he should just know better. I fully realize this was to further events in the film, but I often found that beyond annoying to the point that I was cheering for the creatures to eat him.
The real hero of the film is Millicent Simmonds’ Regan who proves to be clever, bold, and brave. This made me very happy. I love seeing a young woman who not only refuses to her disability stop her but uses it to her advantage.
We need to talk about these nasty creatures whose design is absolutely fantastic. They are something we haven’t seen before A Quiet Place. They are big, ugly, hungry, and mean, just how monsters/aliens should be. I’m assuming that their design was partially inspired by a bat from their neck down. They have the same shape and stance as a bat standing. But their head is something completely new. And those mouths full of hundreds of razor-sharp teeth, are pure nightmare fuel. They are brilliant. Let’s face it, if they actually existed in the world, we’d all be screwed.
Yet again, John Karasinski has created a film that not only delivers scares but also real tension with this emotionally charged sequel. A Quiet Place: Part Two has the makings of an instant classic. Luckily, you don’t have to wait long to own it, it lands on 4K Ultra, Blu-ray, and DVD on July 27, 2021, from Paramount Pictures. You can also get to two film set on the same day.
