Writer Says The Universal Mummy Reboot Is Going To Be Terrifying

The Universal Studio’s Monster shared universe will be kicking off in 2017 with ‘The Mummy‘ reboot. The all-star cast of ‘The Mummy’ includes Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella and Jake Johnson. THR spoke with writer Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) about ‘The Mummy’. He revealed that new version will be frightening. I think [there is] a similar desire to legitimately explore the frightening and the comic. In the Mummy, I think we’re going to see the first Mummy film in the entire Universal canon with the true power to terrify. The earliest Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi Mummy movies were scary in a small way, perhaps a dated way. They were almost parlor movies. Subsequently movies have been more swashbuckling. This one is going to have all of the action and adventure, nut a legitimate power to terrify. I think that’s going to be the new experience of that film.” ‘The Mummy’ is believed to be safely entombed

Starship Troopers Is Headed For A Reboot

In 1997, Paul Verhoeven’s science-fiction-giant-bug film, ‘Starship Troopers’, an adaption of the 1959 novel by Robert Heinlein, premiered in theaters. Even though the film did not impress critics or viewers in theaters, it did have a good run on DVD and spawned several straight-to-video-sequels. Now, ‘Starship Troopers’ is joining the long list of films getting a reboot. THR reports that Fast & Furious producer Neal H. Moritz is teaming up with Toby Jaffe for the new version. The two have worked together before, on the 2012 remake of ‘Total Recall’. Columbia Pictures has tapped Mark Swift and Damien Shannon to pen the new script, which will reportedly ignore the original and go back to the novel for inspiration. Swift and Shannon are the duo behind the upcoming ‘Baywatch’ movie. The original ‘Starship Troopers’ starred Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, Dina Meyer, and Jake Busey. In the film legions of troops fought giant bugs in an attempt wide out their population

Black told JoBlo that ‘The Predator’ is more of a sequel than a reboot. “…has to stand on its own two feet, but our goal is to make sure it acknowledges that, yeah, it is 30 years later in the continuity of the story. In other words, Dutch Schaefer’s patrol, which was attacked and largely slaughtered, happened 30 years ago in the context of the story. It’s referenced, it’s part of the mythology. In that way, it’s more of a sequel than a reboot.”
