Picture it; the Philippines, 1945… a Japanese platoon, with voices so outlandishly dubbed that they border on the insane (everyone in this film suffers the same fate), are waylaid by an indigenous tribe that really isn’t into the idea of someone fucking around on their land… and by “waylaid” I mean “absolutely slaughtered via gore drenched violence” (this shit even features samurai swords versus primitive knives… it’s fucking cool as shit… ). Some Thirty-odd years later, fortune hunter Rex Larson (Edmund Purdom) is hot on the trail of the gold those aforementioned soldiers hid before they met their drizzly demise, but he finds most of the remaining soldiers a little uncooperative (one of them commits hari-kari in an absurdly over-the-top manner accompanied by a gong strike… you can’t even make this shit up cats n’ creeps… ). Soon Rex is joined by a rag-tag team of misfits who’s ranks include TV mainstay/Murder She Wrote regular Stuart Whitman, Spartacus‘ Woody Strode

Director Safy Nebbou‘s feature adaptation of Camille Laurens’ French indie thriller Who You Think I Am will open in theaters in both LA and New York next week. An Official Selection at the Berlin International Film Festival, Who You Think I Am “balances cunning and vulnerability in this romantic cyber-drama turned psychological thriller from writer-director Safy Nebbou. Ghosted by her hunky twenty-something lover, Claire (Binoche), a middle-aged professor and single mom, creates a fake Facebook profile to do a little undetected online snooping. But when her 24-year-old avatar “Clara” is friended by her ex’s equally attractive roommate (François Civil), superficial correspondence quickly escalates towards intense intimacy and uncontrollable obsession. Adapted from Camille Laurens’ best-selling novel—and co-scripted by Julie Peyr, a regular collaborator of Arnaud Desplechin—Who You Think I Am blends genres and bends reality to dizzying effect.” Who You Think I Am opens in theaters on September 3, 2021.

Main-man Marcos (Vincente Parra) is an aimless, loner of a slaughterhouse employee spends what there is of his existence dreaming of a better life. Well at least he has his best gal Paula (Emma Cohen). Speaking of ol’ P-dawg, her and Marcos go at it hot n’ heavy in the back of a taxi after a date, which really infuriates the driver to no fuckin’ end… so much so that Marcos ends up killing the dude outright! As is the way, Paula knows too much, so her ass has to go… and we are off to the races as Marcos just can’t stop killing to cover his tracks… which seems a bit like the snake eatin’ it’s own tail, but who can figure out the mind of a complete psycho on a murder binge… I gotta be upfront with you lot, Cannibal Man is one of the biggest loads of bullshit to ever be printed on a movie poster… Marcos

Blind crossword puzzle author (is that what people who create those things are even called???) Franco (Karl Malden, proving he walked the streets of Rome before those of San Francisco) is taking a stroll one night with his young niece Lori (Cinzia De Carolis) when he overhears a plan to blackmail a scientist who works at a top secret genetic institute…well, not too top secret if they are blabbing about it right out in the damn street and all…oh, and there’s a robbery in there somewhere as well. Anyway Franco eventually teams up with a journalist by the name of Carlo (everyone’s favorite ‘not-quite-Charlton Heston’ James Franciscus) to solve the case, but there ends up being a metric shit-ton of the ol’ murder biz about, so these two dudes are most likely in way over their heads… Admittedly, I’ve never been the biggest fan of the giallo genre; they’ve always played out more like a typical murder mystery with a

Director Prano Bailey-Bond, who is making their feature debut, takes us into the world of “video nasties” in the new horror film Censor (review), out on DVD and On Demand this September. Starring Niamh Algar, the film centers on “Enid, who takes pride in her meticulous work, guarding unsuspecting audiences against the deleterious effects of watching the gore-filled decapitations and eye gougings she pores over. Her sense of duty to protect is amplified by guilt over her inability to recall details of the long-ago disappearance of her sister, recently declared dead in absentia. When Enid is assigned to review a disturbing film from the archive that echoes her hazy childhood memories, she begins to unravel how this eerie work might be tied to her past.” Prano Bailey-Bond and Anthony Fletcher penned the script for Censor that also stars. Review by Dan XIII and Shane Migliavacca Our putrid pals at Arrow Video (along with MVD Entertainment) have gone and shoved a whole mess o’ Martino into a handy-dandy box set, and me and my oldest pal Shane Migliavacca (of the Cathode Ray Mission) are going to give a revoltin’ review to each and every one of those bastards! Kickin’ things off is 1971’s The Case of the Scorpion’s Tail: Lisa (Evelyn Stewart) a jet setting wife of a business man is having an afternoon tryst with her bohab in old London town. Meanwhile her husband’s plane blows up real good (this sequence faetures one of the worst miniature planes I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing… seriously, Ed Wood would have looked at it and said: “I’m not filming this piece of junk.”) Anyhow, it appears Lisa’s husband took out a life insurance policy, leaving Lisa with…wait for it…one million dollars. She’s rich bitch! Trouble is her husband was
