Wanted: Nanny to care for two children and ghosts. A family of four living in the Scottish Borders is seeking a nanny for their two children, aged 5 and 7. Duties include: driving children to and from school, helping with homework, preparing meals, and tucking children in at night in a home located in scenic area. The pay? £50,000 plus 28 holidays. Sounds like a pretty great job, right? There’s only one catch, the home is haunted. Sounds like the plot of horror movie, doesn’t it? But in this case, it’s real. The family posted the wanted ad on Childcare.co.uk. ABC News is reporting that the family has gone through five nannies in the past year alone due to the supernatural activity in the home. For fans attending a convention this might sound like a normal scene, a man carrying weapons and taking photos. No biggie right? Every fan convention and Comic Con sees their fair share of cosplayers (people dressed as characters from tv, movies or books). You don’t really think about all the bad things that could happen, like someone coming onto the convention floor armed to the teeth with real weapons. At the Phoenix Comic Con this past week, that scenario became a reality. News has been coming in over the past few days about the situation. The man, identified as Matthew Sterling, was carrying several weapons, including a knife, and four loaded firearms, including a shotgun, ammunition, various handheld weapons and was wearing body armor, according to the Phoenix Police Department. While Arizona is an open-carry state (legal to carry a firearm in plain sight) several of the weapons were concealed. According to a witness, 31-year-old Sterling was taking photos of

Netflix has yet another original series in the works, based on the eight Witcher novels, with author Andrej Sapkowski on board as a creative consultant. Not only is Sapkowski “thrilled” about the new series, he says it will “stay true to the source material”. Known as The Witcher saga, the New York Times best selling books spawned a hit video game franchise by the same name. Tom Baginski who directed the intros for all three Witcher games will be directing at least one of the episodes each season. That’s right, I said seasons. The novels center on hunters, known as “witchers”, who develop supernatural abilities as a young age to battle monsters. Sean Daniel (The Mummy), Jason Brown (The Expanse), Tomek Baginski (The Cathedral), and Jarek Sawko (Another Day of Life) will serve as executive producers for the show, THR reports. There is no word yet which characters or which stories will be featured. While a release date has not

I do a lot of articles on murderers and crimes, but usually they are of historic persons and people whose stories have been told over and over again to people who follow this sort of thing. I have the sad opportunity today to cover something very recent and ongoing. In the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft, the New England Patriots drafted an NCAA National Champion All-American, John Mackey Award winning (an award given to the nation’s top college tight end) blue chip prospect named Aaron Josef Hernandez. This draft pick was highly scouted and a great pick. He didn’t get drafted earlier because of continually failing drug tests and violence problems while attending The University of Florida. With these issues in mind, Hernandez signed a very lucrative 4-year contract filled with financial incentives to “walk the straight and narrow line.” His promising player was the youngest player on any active roster to start the 2010 season, and showed

Monsters do exist. They are not the nightmares in our dreams, the ghouls under our beds, or the specters in our closets. Monsters are real people, and they are terrifying. One monster who lived on the earth is none other than Aileen Wuornos. Yes, I know that this monster prologue is based on the fact that there is a movie about her called Monster (and the movie if fantastic!), but the fact still remains that she was a vile, angry woman. As with many murderers and monsters, the argument is there for if they were born evil or created evil by their circumstances. And, if created, how justified were they? I am not going or answer that question. But I hope to at least provide the information for you to create opinions and arguments. Lizzie Borden took an axe And gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, She gave her father forty-one. Although inaccurate, this modern-ish nursery rhyme tells the story of a woman who was found innocent of murdering her father and step-mother, but is heavily and strongly beloved to be guilty. Her life was never the same after the trials (aside from the obvious omission of parents) and she was ostracized by everyone around her. The story honestly reminds me a bit of O.J. Simpson…a vicious, violent double murderer found innocent, but clearly guilty in the eyes of the public. Lizzie Andrew Borden was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, U.S.A. August 4, 1860. She was close to her older sister, Emma. Her mother died when Lizzy was three years old, and she resented Abby Durfee Gray whom her father married after her mother’s death. In fact, she would only refer to this her step-mother as Ms. Borden

I am a huge sports fan. Obviously (adhering to the overwhelming Canadian stereotype) I love to watch and play hockey. Football, softball, basketball, MMA, and various other sports are always on my radar. One sport I just can’t get into is soccer (or futball for all you purists out there). But something has happened in the wide world of sports that has made it impossible to ignore this boring spectacle. If you like soccer more power to you, I wish I did, and I wish you all the best…unless you are cheering for the Boa Esporte Clube in Brazil. This team just signed a new goalie named Bruno Fernandes das Dores de Souza. I don’t know if that name is familiar to anyone, but he was in the news back in 2010 for murdering and torturing his girlfriend to keep her pregnancy from his wife. And by way of sensationalism, these real life monsters reached a somewhat mythical status, that makes them not unlike the boogeyman. In John Borowski’s documentary film, Serial Killer Culture, the viewer is provided a glimpse of a subculture that also focuses on these same true life killers from a more real and visceral artistic, historic, and cultural perspective. Staring today, March 1st, there is a new six part series from documentary filmmaker John Borowski, entitled Serial Killer Culture TV, available for viewing or purchase at Amazon. What exactly is serial killer culture? One could posit that it is a form subculture that focuses not just on the killers themselves, but also their crimes, their motivation and the historical context. With this series, Borowski picks up where he left off with his documentary film on the subject, by further shedding light on all manner of endeavors that have arisen from people’s fascination with these real life monsters. To understand why Borowski created this series, we must go back to when he began this particular journey in 2014 with the release of his documentary Serial Killer

I have focused a lot on women in horror and murder this month and will do a few more articles about those terrifying women before the month is out, but I wanted to focus today a man executed in Florida in 1990. Why Florida? Because the story of his execution is horrific and unbelievable. Jesse Joseph Tafero (October 12, 1946), his wife Sonia, their two children, and friend Walter Rhodes were asleep in a parked car. This seemingly abandoned car was noticed by police officers Phillip Black and Donald Irwin. Black knocked on the car window and saw the gun on the floor of the car too late. Tafero fired the weapon killing Black at point blank range and then opened fire on Irwin. After the double murder, the murderous crew and their children stole the police car, sped away and were finally captured at a road block. Tafero had a long criminal record consisting of mostly armed robberies. He
