What struck me about those ice cream trucks was that they were actually selling the whole ice cream cones and banana splits. When I grew up they just sold wrapped up ice cream bars. I sat down with writer-director-producer Justin McConnell (Minutes to Midnight, Broken Mile) recently to discuss his new horror film Lifechanger (review), the unique story of a shape-shifter trying to find his place in the world. The film’s incredible cast includes Bill Oberst Jr., Lora Burke, Jack Foley, Elitsa Bako, Sam James White, and Steve Kasan. Warning: There may be spoilers ahead. The following is transcribed from a verbal conversation. Horror Fuel: “Christmas is coming so it’s the perfect time to talk about your documentary Black Christmas Legacy. Will you tell our readers about it?” Justin McConnell: “I co-directed that with George Mihalka who did My Bloody Valentine. Anchor Bay Entertainment hired me to shoot a retrospective documentary on the film and I shot all the interviews, edited it and co-directed it with George. We got a number of people who were involved with the production in addition to notable people in the genre. Scream Factory licensed it for U.S. release.

The third episode of Blumhouse’s fantastic feature-length horror series “Into the Dark” is now streaming on Hulu. Titled “Pooka”, this episode of the holiday-themed anthology series stars Nyasha Hatendi (interview) as a struggling actor who gets a temp job as the Christmas character in a plush suit to promote Pooka, the hottest toy of the year. At first, it’s not a bad gig, but as time goes by Pooka slowly takes over. Dale Dickey, Isabelle Bates, Jonny Berryman, April Campion, Gene Freeman, Cliff Weissman, and Katie Wilson co-star in “Pooka” directed by Nacho Vigalondo and written by Gerald Olson. “Into the Dark’s” first episode was titled “The Body” and was set on Halloween. It was followed by episode two “Flesh and Blood” starring Dermot Mulroney, Diana Silvers, and Tembi Locke who filled us on the episode and the series during our interview. Both are now streaming on Hulu along with “Pooka.”

I had the opportunity to talk with Nyasha Hatendi, who stars in the third episode of Hulu’s horror anthology series “Into the Dark”, one of my favorite new series. Hatendi is an impressive actor who got his start on stage and appeared in “King Charles III“, which received 6 Tony nominations including Best Play, before appearing in the series “Casual”, films like The Front Runner, and in the films The Good Shephard where he stars opposite Robert De Niro, and the soon to be released movie Replicas with Keanu Reeves. I sat down with talented actress Tembi Locke to talk with her about several of her roles such as Grace Monroe on “Eureka”, a series I absolutely adored, about a town of scientists and their inventions that end up causing chaos. We also talked about one of Tambi’s most recent roles in Hulu’s new film series “Into the Dark”. “Into the Dark” is part film and part series. Each month an episode is released as a feature length film that is inspired by that month’s holiday. I should also mention that the series is a Blumhouse production. November’s episode centers on Kimberly, a young woman, played by Diana Silvers, who has severe agoraphobia. With the help of her psychiatrist (Tembi Locke), Kimberly is working towards finding the power to leave her home. Was it actually filmed in Jerusalem? Yoav Paz: “It was. Some of it was filmed in Nazareth and other old cities. It was just an hour’s drive from where I live in Telavive, driving there is like driving to a different country. We are working on the sequel which will also be filmed there. The name Pauly Shore is one you will all recognize. While you know him best as a comedian, Shore is revealing his darker side. Yesterday he released his most recent short film, titled Sin City Psycho where he plays the role of a psychotic killer. Not only does Shore star, but he also wrote, directed and produced the film. Even though we know Shore for comedic films like Bio-Dome, Son in Law, and Encino Man, he pulls off the role of a killer quite well. We happen to have the full short film here for you to see. Cerrito Production has just released the blood-soaked trailer for writer-director Mario Cerrito III‘s cannibalistic horror flick Human Hibachi, which we called “A bloody tasty treat.” In the found footage style film, a Japanese man documents his girlfriends 35th birthday from the moment she wakes up to the moment everything goes wrong. Elizabeth Gaynor, Carmine Giordano, Wataru Nishida, Carley Harper, Sopheaktra Theng, Andrew Hunsicker, John Campanile, and Stafford Chavis star in Human Hibachi which is currently in post-production and looking to premiere in 2019. During our interview with Mario Cerrito III, we discussed the film and cannibalism in general. Be sure to check it out. Cerrito’s first film Deadly Gamble was signed to worldwide release. His second film The Listing will also is headed to Marche Du Film at Cannes film festival.

Amaris Davidson, former NBA dancer turned actress, sat down with me to talk about her roles in films like Insidious 3, as Sarah in the soon to be released film Killer Kate! and her character Coach Fazholtz on the new supernatural series “Light As A Feather” which has just arrived on Hulu. Horror Fuel: “What was it like on the set of Insidious 3?” Amaris Davidson: “Oh, man. It was in a dilapidated hospital. It was a real hospital that they had turned into a movie set, exclusively for horror movies. Walking through the hall to get to where we were filming was interesting itself. It would give you a weird feeling. I don’t care for hospitals already, so it was really creepy. I play a nurse in Insidious 3, an ER nurse. There was a lot of blood in the prosthetics which were really beautifully done. They fire off the smoke machine and all you see is smoke coming
