Academy Award-winning Son of Saul director László Nemes is developing a new Victorian-set television series titled “Sickert,” The Hollywood Reporter confirms. The project explores the infamous Jack the Ripper murders through the lens of influential painter Walter Sickert. Unsolved Victorian Terrors In 1888, a series of brutal murders in London’s impoverished Whitechapel district gripped the city in widespread terror. The killer sent mocking letters to local authorities, signing them with the notorious moniker Jack the Ripper. Although five canonical victims are officially linked to the perpetrator, the killer’s true identity remains one of history’s greatest mysteries. Over a century later, true-crime enthusiasts and historians continue to debate the case. An Artist Under Suspicion The story focuses on painter Walter Sickert as he navigates both high society and London’s marginalized underclass.
