Odds are you’ve heard about the 1978 movie Faces of Death. Like many movies of our youth, Faces of Death is now getting a reboot that will kick off a new franchise. Billed as a documentary, it shocked and horrified viewers, featuring supposed real deaths, autopsies, and scenes of gore, and bizarre events, up close in clips from around the world. In reality, the majority of the deaths were staged, but the movie, written and directed by John Allen Schwarts, still managed to build a cult following even after it was banned in countries around the world, leaving people desperate to get their hands on a copy of the VHS. The upcoming new installment of the Paranormal Activity franchise will be skipping theaters and heading straight to Paramount+. Directed by William Eubank (Underwater) is in the director’s chair for the sequel written by Christopher Landon, the man behind Paranormal Activity II, III, and IV, Happy Death Day and Freaky, which was released earlier this year. Paranormal Activity‘s Oren Peli and Jason Blum are producing. Details are being kept quiet, but the movie has been described as “an unexpected retooling” of the franchise and will continue the tradition of the franchise’s found-footage style the began with the first film, released in 2007. Set to be released later this year, the film stars Emily Bader, Dan Lippert, Roland Buck III, and Henry Ayres-Brown. We’ll keep you posted. Daniel Ferrands, the director of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, is back with his new true crime film American Boogeyman, the story of the detective and FBI profiler who hunted serial killer Ted Bundy. Chad Michael Murray, who starred in Warner Bros’ 2005 House of Wax remake, The Haunting in Connecticut: Ghosts of Georgia, and the CW’s “Riverdale,” will star as the serial killer Ted Bundy, ScreenDaily reports. Murray will star alongside Lin Shaye (Insidious, The Grudge) and Holland Roden (Sony’s Escape Room 2, MTV’s Teen Wolf). “Set in a gritty and decadent 1970s America, American Boogeyman follows the elusive and charming killer and the manhunt that brought him to justice involving the detective and the FBI rookie who coined the phrase ‘serial killer’.” Farrands is also behind several other true-crime films including The Amityville Murders, The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, and 2019’s The Haunting of Sharon Tate. IFC Films announced today that they are acquiring North American rights to the psychological coming-of-age thriller John and the Hole, directed by visual artist Pascual Sisto – one of Variety’s “10 Directors to Watch” in 2021 – in his feature debut. “In this enigmatic and unsettling meditation on adolescent angst, 13-year-old John (Charlie Shotwell) discovers an unfinished bunker while exploring the neighboring woods—a deep hole in the ground.
