Last night, during the ninety-minute ‘The Walking Dead’ episode ‘Here’s Not Here’, the trailer of AMC’s new series ‘Preacher‘ made it’s world debut. The new series is based on the adaption of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s fantastic graphic novel by the same name.
For those who are not familiar with the comics, let me explain. ‘Preacher’ follows Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a preacher from a small Texas town, who was pushed into preaching by his effing insane family. Jesse, after being possessed by Genesis, an entity that is half angel and half demon, sets out to find God. He is accompanied by his ex girlfriend Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), a vampire. The angels, desperate to have Genesis back in his cage, send “The Killer of Saints” to find him.
Graphic Novel co-creator Garth Ennis will be working along side Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on the script for the pilot of the series. AMC has shown dark shows before, such as The Walking Dead, but fans of ‘Preacher’ know that the subject matter in the graphic novels are not only dark, but controversial. Of course, Rogen has never had a problem with being controversial, take ‘The Interview’ for example. The big questions are, how much will AMC tone down the show and how true will they will stay to the graphic novels. We will have to wait to find out, according to Seth Rogen ‘Preacher’ will premiere in May of 2016.
