Amityville: The Awakening, first set to be released back in 2015, has been delayed four times. The last release date was supposed to be in June 2017. We thought that Dimension films had given up on the film, but according to Deadline Amityville: The Awakening will finally be released.
Not only will we finally get to see it, it will be free on Google Play from October 12th to November 8th. It will also have a limited theatrical run beginning October 28th. But at this point, I will believe it when I see it. Keep your fingers crossed that we will actually get to see it this time.
The film follows Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a single Mother, and her three children, one who is very ill. They have relocated to a new town and a new home. Unaware of its history and reputation, the family moves into the Amityville house, where Butch DeFeo butchered his family all those years ago. Things quickly go from bad to worse when the family begins to experience intense paranormal phenomena.
Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Bella Thorne (Blended), Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time), Cameron Monaghan (Shameless), Thomas Mann (Project X) and Robo Cop’s Kurtwood Smith star in Amityville: The Awakening, written and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac) with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions serving as producer for the film.
Here’s an interesting fact, this is the 18th Amityville film. Only nine were made by major studios. The rest were all indie films. Each is tied to the supposedly true story inspired book ‘The Amityville Horror’ by Jay Anson.
