Netflix’s new original series Stranger Things, written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer, is the most brilliant series TV we’ve seen in a very long time. Starring Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Matthew Modine and Joe Keery, the series could not have been better.
Stranger Things follows a group of friends, played by Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin, who discover a strange girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) at the same time that their friend Will disappears. Eleven (Elle for short), while hiding from the government agency, holds the secrets of an experiment that has created a doorway to another world. The friends set out to find Will and bring him home, with the help of Elle. At the same time Will’s mother (Ryder) refuses to give up hope of finding her youngest son. She has discovered that Will can communicate by making the lights blink from the other side. Together, Will’s family and friends might be able to bring him home.
Stranger Things has a distinct Stephen King feel. In fact, midway through the series, I had to stop and look up Stranger Thing’s IMDb page, just to make sure Stephen King was not involved. Stranger Things brought back memories of when I was young and first discovered King, his books and his films.
The Duffer brothers have created a masterpiece. Stranger Things is fantastic in every way. The actors did an amazing job, especially it’s younger cast. They truly made the show the treasure it is. The effects were great, the story-line was perfectly timed and so well written. I’ve though long and hard and I can’t think of anything that would have improved the series, it’s just that good. I only wish there were more episodes. Luckily, Stranger Things has already been renewed for season two and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
