On Friday, during the Television Critics Association Press Tour, new details emerged about Spike TV’s series adaption of ‘The Mist’.

Don’t expect to see reboot of the film or a strict adaption of Stephen King’s novel though. The series will be a “reimagination” with a ‘Fagro’ feel.

Per TV Guide, Christian Torpe, the show’s executive producer, went on to explain: “Internally, we talk about it as doing the ‘Fargo’ approach, where the movie and the TV show is the same, but it’s different. It’s like a weird, twisted cousin to the original source material. Fans of the movie and of the book and of Mr. King’s work will certainly see elements from it…We also, in order to develop it for TV and turn it into an ongoing series, took our own little detours here and there.”

Frank Darabont’s 2007 film adaption of ‘The Mist’, starring Thomas Jane and ‘Walking Dead’ actresses Melissa McBride and Laurie Holden, was pretty good, even though the ending left viewers devastated (You will find the trailer below to refresh your memory). The new series will have a different ending.

I personally love… Mr. [Darabont’s] ending,” Torpe said. “I thought it was a stroke of genius. We are playing around in that territory, and we also know, of course, Mr. King’s ending. And I know Mr. King actually preferred Darabont’s ending. And so I think we came up with our own spin on a very original and surprising ending.”

The full cast has been announced and includes Gus Birney (Bloody Mary) as teen “Alex Cunningham”. Dan Butler (The Silence of the Lambs) will play “Father Romoanov, a priest who has lost his faith. Danica Curcic (Gold Coast) stars as “Mai Lambert”, a drug addict, struggling to keep it together. Okezie Morror (WWZ 2) is cast as “Jonah Dixon”, a soldier suffering from amnesia, who holds secrets of the mist. Popular local football player and son of the local sheriff, is played by Darren Pettie (Ringer), “Jay Heisel” will be played by Luke Cosgrove (The Heist). The role of Jay Heisel’s best friend Adrian Garff, is played by Russell Posner (The D Train). After the town is overcome by the mist, Isiah Whitlock Jr.’s (Pete’s Dragon) character “Gus” must decide if will lead and how far he will go to keep order. We reported back in June that American Horror Story’s Frances Conroy   will co-star. Last, but not least, is Viking’s actress Alyssa Sutherland who joined the cast as Eve Cunningham, a wife and mother, trapped inside the local mall when the mist comes.

The premiere date for Spike TV’s ‘The Mist’ , scripted by Christian Torpeby and directed by Adam Bernstein, has not been announced, but we will keep you posted.
