Writer-Director Donna McRae Talks ‘Lost Gully Road’

Indie filmmaker Donna McRae’s new indie film Lost Gully Road has just been released. I had the pleasure of talking with McRae about the film and other projects. The dark minimalistic film starring Adele Perovic as a woman waiting at a remote cabin for her sister, not knowing that she is not alone there in the forest. Horror Fuel: “Will you tell us about your journey becoming a filmmaker?” Donna McRae: “After drama school, I was an actress doing short films and advertisements, but I met up with a young director in film school and I was playing the leading role in his film and I started writing. When I left drama school, after about two years, all the roles that I wanted didn’t happen and so I just started writing screenplays to pass the time. I felt like I liked that better. I like creating story worlds and I was basically trying to write things for myself to be

Let’s kick things off with 1958’s The Fly… because that’s the first film in the series, and it would be stupid to do anything else… Andre Delambre (David Hedison) is flat as a pancake after being crushed to shit and back in a mechanical press, and his wife Helene (Patricia Owens) is the one responsible… but like an attention whore’s Facebook relationship status, it’s complicated. Fortunately we learn just how complicated as she recounts the strange events leading to Andre’s trip to the permanent press cycle to his brother Francois (Vincent Price, the one and only baby… ) and Police Inspector Charas (Herbert Marshall). Movie Reviews (Another Hole in the Head Film Fest): Beneath the Black Veil and Giantess Attack versus Mecha Fembot (both 2019)

Director Jason M. Koch — no stranger to controversy with his ABCs of Death 2.5 (2016) segment “M is for Munging” and his grisly feature 7th Day (2013) — tackles Chritsian faith and lack thereof in his latest film, Beneath the Black Veil. The lives and marriage of Genna (Samantha Jean) and her husband Aaron (Michael Acosta) are shattered when their child is killed by a driver. When the driver is not punished by law for the accident, the couple plots to take their anger at God out by killing the driver and breaking all of the Ten Commandments. This proves difficult when Aaron cannot find the willpower to leave their house, and then finds himself growing grotesquely sicker. Meanwhile, Genna’s behavior becomes ever odder, alarming her coworkers and close friend. Koch, who wrote the screenplay based on a story by Stephen Biro (writer of the American Guinea Pig films), doesn’t shy away from blasphemy in this body horror/occult horror
