Movie Review: Holiday Hell (2019)

As is the way around these putrid parts, my arcane ass has yet another horror anthology to review… so let’s hang the monstrous mistletoe and get balls deep into Holiday Hell shall we? Waiting until the last possible moment; a woman enters a curio shop on Christmas Eve looking for a gift. Well, said shop is run by Re-Animator‘s Jeffrey Combs, who gives fuck-all how late our heroine is and proceeds to weave a quartet of terror tales involving objects in the shop… on of which she must choose to purchase before the clock strikes midnight. Lady, just leave and grab a gift card somewhere; sure it’s unoriginal and lazy, but you get to not be menaced by supernatural shenanigans, and who doesn’t like iTunes or Target? Since she defies logic and stays, let’s start examining these yarns… First up we get Dollface; the story of a gang o’ teens poppin’ a squat in a murder house. this dread domicile

Movie Review: The Curse Of Buckout Road (2017)

Urban legends; I dig ’em, and apparently so does the horror biz at large, because we sure do get a veritable shit-ton of fright flicks involving them… like The Curse of Buckout Road for instance… Said curse on Buckout Road is that seemingly all manner of urban legends call the locale their haunted home… and that makes that revoltin’ road (located in Westchester, New York) a real ass pain for those that have to traverse it. Enter former military-man Aaron (Evan Ross) who takes up residence with his shrink uncle Lawrence (Danny Glover), who thankfully for us horror hounds, is B.D. in a case involving three college kids who are dealing with supernatural shenanigans after investigating that eponymous road… and soon our hero gets caught up in the ghoulish goings-on, and with the help of Reverend Mike (Colm Feore) attempts to find which monstrous menace (for the record, said menaces are albino cannibals, a vengeful ghost, and hot under the

‘Documenting the Witch Path’ Conjures A Release Date

Carl Sundstrom’s terrifying found footage film, Documenting the Witch Path has conjured an October release date. Inspired by actual events, this film follows three young documentary filmmakers, (Nathaniel P. Erlandsson, Robin Franzen, and Carl Sundstrom). Together, they discover a path in the woods, which leads to a lake known as Witch Lake. Accused of witchcraft during the 17th century, many innocent men, women, and children were drowned in this now infamous lake. With the entrance to the path covered and the lake closed to the public, the filmmakers venture into the woods in search of a horrifying truth. The award-winning written and directed by Sundstrom and produced by Simon Tuomisto, the film has won Best Documentary Feature at both the Bloody Horror International Film Festival and the Independent Horror Movie Awards. John Lepper, Adam Whitton, Chase Whitton, and Sundstrom executive produced the feature. Terror Films has set the release date for Documenting the Witch Path for Friday, October 11th. The

Blu-ray Review: The Prey (1983)

Shot in 1979, set in 1980, released in 1983… and packed from asshole to earlobes with nature stock footage, what else could it be but The Prey? Well, honestly it’s possible it could be something else… but it isn’t; it’s The Prey. Anyway, the plot to this sinister slasher is simple; three good lookin’ couples (no surprise here as Edwin and Summer Brown were known for their porno flicks before they dipped their tingling toes in our beloved horror biz) traipse off into the woods for a lil’ rest and relaxation (read: sexy time), but it soon becomes apparent they are not alone in that freaky forest! As a lengthy, and oh-so-tacked on flashback sequence (that is confusingly presented at times in both sepia hue and color for no good reason) reveals; gypsies (like they have one of those olde timey carts and everything) once settled in those woods, and thanks to the horny antics of one of their clan,

Directors Announced For “The Haunting Of Bly Manor”

Ciarán Foy (Citadel, Sinister 2, Eli) is one of the directors who have come on board to direct several episodes of Netflix‘s “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” Mike Flanagan took to Twitter last night to announce some of the other directors who will be helming episodes. Flanagan tweeted, “I’m really excited to be collaborating with some of my favorite filmmakers on The Haunting of Bly Manor.” In addition to Foy, that list includes Yolanda Ramke, Ben Howling (Cargo), Liam Gavin (A Dark Song), and Axelle Carolyn (Tales of Halloween, “Grim Grinning Ghost”). Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, Victoria Pedretti, Catherine Parker, and Henry Thomas will all be returning to play new characters in “Bly Manor.” They join new cast members T’Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Amelia Eve, Benjamin Ainsworth, and Amelie Smith. This season is inspired by Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw, which is set in an old country manor where two young orphans are cared for by a governess.

‘Sister Tempest’ Promises Surreal Chills, Alien Tribunals, and Cannibalistic Cravings

Writer/director Joe Badon unleashed his surreal mind-bender The God Inside My Ear in 2017, and it instantly became one of my top 10 films of that year, regardless of genre. The Louisiana filmmaker has just released the trailer for his sophomore feature Sister Tempest, and this outing looks to be equally as outré as his jaw-dropping debut. The film’s official synopsis states: “Anne Hutchinson’s troubled relationship with her missing sister is under alien tribunal. Meanwhile, her new roommate’s mysterious illness causes her to go on a cannibalistic killing spree.” The trailer promises intriguing new visions from Badon, and I’m also guessing some of the elements that made The God Inside My Ear so amazing will be in play for this film, too, including head-scratching (in the best way!) visuals, sequences that tread the fine line between nightmarish and dreamlike, a few nods to classic and obscure films from horror and other genres, and, naturally, the unexpected. Badon is also an

Movie Review: 3 From Hell

I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally see Rob Zombie’s highly anticipated 3 From Hell, the sequel to both House of 1000 Corpses and Devil’s Rejects. The firefly family is back, somehow surviving the hail of bullets that rained down at the end of The Devil’s Rejects. Just when we thought the gang was down for the count we learn just how tough they truly are. While they find themselves in police custody, you know they won’t be caged long, because, well, they’re the Firefly family. Bill Moseley’s Otis is simply brutal. After making his escape he only has one goal, to free his family. It’s amazing that such a great guy as Moseley can manifest someone so dark. Moseley’s portrayal of Otis proves just how talented the actor really is. After a 15 year gap between The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell, Moseley never skips a beat. I find that incredible. During our recent interview,
