A new documentary, King of Screen, from director Daphné Baiwir will explore King’s legacy of terror and the films we all love to fear. “In 1976, Brian de Palma directed Carrie, the first novel by Stephen King. Spoiler-Free Review: KING ON SCREEN (Panic Fest 2023)

French/Belgian coproduction King on Screen is a valentine to the film adaptations of prolific author Stephen King — who truly needs no introduction here — and to the writer himself. Featuring talking-head interviews with filmmakers who adapted King’s works to big and small screens alike, along with behind-the-scenes footage and film clips galore, the film shows the diverse range of genres in which King has worked, and examines why his stories work as well as they do. Director Daphné Baiwir begins her documentary with an Easter-egg–filled seven-minute sequence in which King’s short stories and novels get name checked or alluded to, and it’s a fun way to begin this film. Even the most casual of the author’s fans will get some of the references, while more seasoned aficionados will appreciate the deeper cuts. From there, the interview segments, archival footage that includes King on different sets, and clips from both classic and lesser known King films begin. Filmmakers such as

The Top 10 Best Horror Shows Of 2021

The Top 10 Best Horror Shows Of 2021

10. Midnight Mass (review) One of the new series the streaming giant, Netflix, unleashed this year is “Midnight Mass” from brilliant filmmaker Mike Flanagan, whose winning relationship with Netflix has given us hit series such as “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” In “Midnight Mass“, “The arrival of a charismatic young priest brings glorious miracles, ominous mysteries, and renewed religious fervor to a dying town desperate to believe.” While I did have issues with some of the elements of the show, mainly the ending, it belongs on this list due to the quality of the series and its incredible all-star cast. 9. Shadow and Bone Dark and supernatural, the series, an adaptation of the best-selling Grishaverse novels, is set in a war-torn world where Alina Starkov has just discovered a power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she

Netflix Review: Midnight Mass

Netflix Review: Midnight Mass

Mike Flanagan, the brilliant mind behind Netflix’s “Haunting of Hill House,” Doctor Sleep, and Geralds’s Game, is back with his latest genre offering, the Netflix series “Midnight Mass.” WARNING SPOILERS! Now, if you’re expecting something haunting like “Haunting of Hill Houe,” you’ll be sorely disappointed. “Midnight Mass” is a whole different monster entirely. Instead of dark paranormal horror, we get religious horror. The series centers on an isolated island community that experiences miraculous events – and frightening omens – after a charismatic, mysterious young priest arrives. Religion is the main topic throughout the series, and there’s a fine line between too much and just enough. The constant preaching and non-stop bible quotes overshadowed the story and the horror we were promised. The tale of the characters and their struggles take a back seat to the hours of religious idealogy and sermons, which annoyed me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m okay with religion, but it felt like “Midnight Mass” was trying
