Stephen King Thinks He Knows Why “The Dark Tower” Failed

For all the success stories Stephen King properties had this year, “The Dark Tower” collapsed like a game of Jenga. While eventually grossing a little over $100 million on a $60 million budget, “Tower” was a critical disaster, hated by fans of the series, and a far cry from the building block to a new franchise that Columbia hoped it would be. King himself weighed in on what he thought brought the movie down; having penned the seven novels that make up the “Dark Tower” books series, there’s no man on Earth so qualified to say what went so wrong. In an interview with EW, he tentatively opened up. I liked everybody involved with that movie and I liked some of the casting choices for it. I liked Modi Wiczyk, the producer, the director, everybody. So you know I’m always careful what I say about it.But I will say this, okay? The real problem, as far as I’m concerned is,

Film Adaption Of Stephen King’s ‘The Talisman’ In The Works

Stephen King adaptions are everywhere these days (not that we’re complaining). Between IT, Gerald’s Game, ‘Mr. Mercedes’, ‘The Mist’ which has been canceled after one season, and others upcoming projects, King is dominating the genre. We can now add another adaption to the list. Variety is reporting that Josh Boone (New Mutants, The Fault in the Stars) has signed on to pen the script for the film adaption of King’s ‘The Talisman’ produced by Frank Marshall (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jason Bourne). Written by King and Peter Straub in 1984, ‘The Talisman’ follows the young Jack Sawyer, whose mother is dying. Jack learns that if obtains the talisman he can cure her disease. He must embark on a journey through a parallel world. King penned a sequel to the tale titled ‘Black House’ featuring Jack as a grown man working as a homicide detective, so there is a potential sequel there if the first film is well received.

Stephen King To Get The Rights Back To Several Films Based On His Work

Stephen King had a busy week, as he was filing to get the rights back to several 80s films based on his work. As it turns out, the films in question are The Dead Zone, Cujo, Creepshow, Cat’s Eye, Firestarter and Children of the Corn. The question on many horror fans’ minds is “why”? One rumor is that King wants control of the rights free and clear so that he can use the characters in the upcoming Hulu series Castle Rock, helmed by J.J. Abrams. That would imply that the new show will include elements from the period of what some argue is King’s best work. Either way, Castle Rock is certainly something for horror fans to look forward to. Stay tuned here at horrorfuel.com for all the details on the upcoming series.

A Quartet Of Quintessential Stephen King Films To Be Featured In A New Blu-ray Collection

As is the case with most of you, my Little Monsters, I am eagerly awaiting the upcoming release of cinematic fare by that Master of the Macabre, Stephen King. We have The Dark Tower coming out on August 4th and IT which is due out on September 8th. But four iconic King horror films will also be released as a collection somewhere in between these two highly anticipated theatrical releases. The 1979 adaptation of Salem’s Lot, Stanley Kubrick’s film version of The Shining, King’s second anthology film, Cat’s Eye, and the original 1989 mini-series adaptation of IT are being compiled for a Blu-ray collection called the “King og Horror Collection”. Granted, each of these adaptations have already been released independently, but such a collection would be a great way to get all the films in one place and would also make a perfect gift to provide newer fans a look at how some of King’s nightmarish stories have been translated
