Blu-ray Review: ‘Snatchers’ Is A Goretastic Horror Comedy You Need To See

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided with a free copy of the Blu-ray™ I reviewed in this post. The opinions I share are my own.” What’s worse than being a teen and finding out you’re pregnant? Being a teen finding out that you are pregnant with an alien hellbent on wiping out the human race. That’s what happens in Snatchers, from the writing/directing duo of Stephen Cedars and Benji Kleiman. Picture it, senior year and you’ve finally gotten in with the cool kids. Sara (Mary Nepi) thinks everything is going great, but things suddenly take a horrific turn the morning after she loses her virginity to teen hunk Skyler (Austin Fryberger). When she wakes she is shocked to find that she’s not only pregnant but looks like she’s due to give birth any minute. The only person she thinks of to turn to is her ex-BFF, the same one she dumped for the cool kids. Luckily, Hayley (Gabrielle Elyse) still cares.

Blu-ray Review: House by the Cemetery (1981)

Hot shot New York City doctor Norman Boyle (Paolo Malco) takes over the investigation of a historical home down Massachusetts way started by his pal Dr. Petersen, who just so happens to have offed himself after making his mistress extinct. I certainly hope the former owner of the house had nothing to do with all that unpleasantness… Anyhow, ol’ Norm packs up his wife Lucy (the loverly Catriona MacColl) and his son Bob (who has been having all manner of weird psychic connections to the house in the form of communications with an odd little girl named Mae (Silvia Collatina)… which as strange as that is, doesn’t even come close to matching the blazing nonsense that is his voice in the English dub) and heads to Mass to take up residence in that dread dwelling. One deranged babysitter (Ania Pieroni) and a trip to the basement later, and it becomes clear that the malevolent presence of the house’s previous owner

Movie Review: VFW Is Entertaining As Hell

When you hear the names Stephen Lang, William Sadler, Fred Williamson, Martin Kove, David Patrick Kelly, and George Wendt you automatically think that you’re in for a good movie, so when I heard about Joe Begos’ horror flick VFW I was psyched. I eagerly waited for my chance to see it and last night I did. The film follows a group of veterans hanging out at their local VFW when a young woman, “Lizard (Sierra McCormick),” runs in with a bag of drugs stolen from a dealer. The veterans feel obligated to protect the girl and when the dealer’s people come for the drugs it’s an all-out fight for survival, but the group is not going out without a fight. As always Lang doesn’t disappoint. The man must have been a lumberjack in a previous life, he is 68 and swings an ax in like it was what he was meant to do. He is 100% a badass! He plays

While on a retreat at a lake house, he meets Al (MacLeod Andrews, A Ghost Waits, Doctor Sleep), whose husband drowned in the lake-one of many mysterious deaths there. The area is marked by a local legend of a lovelorn spirit who haunts the surrounding woods and drowns anyone she encounters. The legend proves all too real when Tom encounters the beautiful creature. The fifth edition of Final Girls Berlin Film Festival takes place February 6–9, 2020 at City Kino Wedding as the fest continues to raise the bar by showcasing horror movies written, directed, and/or produced by women and nonbinary filmmakers. Festival codirector Eli Lewy calls this year’s festival edition the “most expansive and international yet, presenting a wide array of films by visionary filmmakers that represent the diversity and originality that can be found in the current horror landscape.” The exciting program features eight curated short blocks and nine feature films, a horror-inspired self-defense workshop, an exhibition, a festival party with multimedia drag performances, and specialist talks on horror martyrs, made-for-TV horror, “female monsters,” and “bad mothers” in Mexican horror cinema. “Horror is a very elastic term,” said fellow co-director Sara Neidorf, “and we’re excited to discover films that make us question and expand our conceptions of what horror can be, both in ways that are distant from and uncannily near

Blu-ray Review: The Fly Collection (1958 – 1989)

Those magnificent bastards at Scream Factory have gone and done it; they’ve shoved every damn Fly flick into a boxed set, packed them with features, and set them loose to be lapped up by horror hounds everywhere… and I’m going to put a revoltin’ review on the whole shebang! Let’s kick things off with 1958’s The Fly… because that’s the first film in the series, and it would be stupid to do anything else… Andre Delambre (David Hedison) is flat as a pancake after being crushed to shit and back in a mechanical press, and his wife Helene (Patricia Owens) is the one responsible… but like an attention whore’s Facebook relationship status, it’s complicated. Fortunately we learn just how complicated as she recounts the strange events leading to Andre’s trip to the permanent press cycle to his brother Francois (Vincent Price, the one and only baby… ) and Police Inspector Charas (Herbert Marshall). You see ol’ Andy had been balls

Movie Reviews (Another Hole in the Head Film Fest): Beneath the Black Veil and Giantess Attack versus Mecha Fembot (both 2019)

Director Jason M. Koch — no stranger to controversy with his ABCs of Death 2.5 (2016) segment “M is for Munging” and his grisly feature 7th Day (2013) — tackles Chritsian faith and lack thereof in his latest film, Beneath the Black Veil. The lives and marriage of Genna (Samantha Jean) and her husband Aaron (Michael Acosta) are shattered when their child is killed by a driver. When the driver is not punished by law for the accident, the couple plots to take their anger at God out by killing the driver and breaking all of the Ten Commandments. This proves difficult when Aaron cannot find the willpower to leave their house, and then finds himself growing grotesquely sicker. Meanwhile, Genna’s behavior becomes ever odder, alarming her coworkers and close friend. Koch, who wrote the screenplay based on a story by Stephen Biro (writer of the American Guinea Pig films), doesn’t shy away from blasphemy in this body horror/occult horror
