Wrinkles, Wrath, and Weapons: A Spoiler-Free Review of Netflix's "The Boroughs"

Wrinkles, Wrath, and Weapons: A Spoiler-Free Review of Netflix’s “The Boroughs”

The Duffer Brothers have officially traded in the teenage angst and D&D campaigns for a New Mexico retirement community in “The Boroughs“. And I have some thoughts. If you loved the high-stakes chaos, rich character development, and retro charm of the Duffer brothers’ “Stranger Things,” you’ll love this. Rest assured: “The Boroughs“ may feature a lot more gray hair and a soundtrack that leans heavily toward soft-rock anthems. But these seniors are alive, kicking, and infinitely more relatable than a bunch of middle-schoolers. Netflix is officially locking in Season 2. So, it is time to face the facts: the golden years are about to get bloody. Prepare to watch a bunch of retirees fight for their lives against entities far more terrifying than inflation and bad knees. What’s the Story? Season one kicks off with Sam Coope, a cynical fresh arrival who views this sun-drenched senior haven less as a relaxing retreat and more as a beautifully landscaped, minimum-security prison.

From the Director of The Last House on the Left Comes ‘Buzzheart’ – Out Now!

If meeting your partner’s parents gives you hives, Dennis Iliadis’ new psychological thriller Buzzheart is about to make you feel a whole lot better about your own in-laws. The genre-bending film—from the director behind The Last House on the Left and a frequent collaborator of horror royalty Wes Craven and Jason Blum—officially drops on Digital and On Demand today, May 19, via Dark Star Pictures. To celebrate the release, a brand-new, nerve-shredding trailer has just premiered. Meet the Parents (From Hell) Set against the backdrop of 1990s Athens, the film follows Argyris, a shy 19-year-old who somehow lands a date with Mary, a beautiful and enigmatic woman who is entirely out of his league. When she invites him to her family’s secluded country estate for the weekend, Argyris thinks he’s in for a romantic getaway. He is dead wrong. Claiming they are just “protecting their fragile daughter,” Mary’s parents subject the poor kid to a gauntlet of increasingly bizarre, brutal,

Ella Rubin Joins Netflix’s “The God of the Woods” Adaptation

Summer camp is rarely a peaceful getaway in the world of thrillers, and Netflix’s upcoming prestige mystery is no exception. Ella Rubin (Until Dawn, Fear Street: Prom Queen) has officially signed on to join the sprawling, multi-generational adaptation of Liz Moore’s bestselling 2024 novel, The God of the Woods. Rubin joins a high-caliber ensemble that already includes Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) and Oscar nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin). Wealth, Secrets, and a Missing Child Set against the deceptively scenic backdrop of the Adirondacks, the series tracks the slow-motion implosion of the ultra-wealthy Van Laar family. When 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar vanishes from her family’s summer camp, it forces a collision between the town’s distinct social classes and unearths an older family tragedy that everyone would prefer stayed buried. As the investigation deepens, the Van Laars’ immense wealth and influence begin to unravel, exposing the toxic side effects of extreme privilege and institutional power. The Suspects and Citizens The

Visions, Vices, and Voices: David Howard Thornton Speaks in Michael Pickle’s The Dead Place’

High school is usually a nightmare of social hierarchy and exams, but for Isaac, the horror is a lot more literal. Writer/director Michael Pickle makes his feature debut with The Dead Place, an indie supernatural thriller that aims to prove some ghosts are harder to shake than a bad reputation. The film makes its digital debut on the BloodStreamTV streaming service on June 1, 2026, followed by a wide TVOD release on August 5. A Very Crowded Headspace Isaac (Idris Veliu) is a high school senior with a serious boundary issue: he can’t stop seeing dead people. Naturally, this makes him the campus outcast and creates a “fun” level of friction at the dinner table. His only ally is Katharine (Lexi Graves), a paranormal enthusiast who is determined to help him navigate his spectral sightings. However, things take a sharp turn into the demonic when the “New Kid” arrives. This mysterious stranger isn’t just looking for the cafeteria—he’s pushing Isaac

Check In, Freak Out: A Sneak Peek at ‘The Terror: Devil in Silver’ Episode 2

An Interview with the Showrunners of “The Terror: Devil in Silver”

After a seven-year hiatus that felt longer than a winter in the Arctic, AMC’s prestige horror anthology is finally back to remind us that being trapped in a room is much worse than being trapped in the tundra. “The Terror: Devil in Silver” officially premiered on May 7, 2026, on AMC+ and Shudder. This six-episode descent into madness moves the franchise away from historical shipwrecks and internment camps, landing squarely in the claustrophobic nightmare of a modern psychiatric ward. One Way Ticket to Hell Based on the 2012 novel by Victor LaValle, the season follows Pepper (Dan Stevens), a working-class man whose “bad luck and bad temper” land him in New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. Pepper quickly realizes that New Hyde is where society sends the people it wants to forget. Movie Review: Apex is a Bone-Crunching Tale of Survival that Deserves to be Seen

Director Baltasar Kormákur is taking us to the edge with his new thriller Apex, which is now streaming on Netflix. So, the question is, is it any good? We will explore that in this review. From Mourning to Manhunt The narrative follows a grieving adrenaline junkie (Charlize Theron) who ventures into the wilderness to find closure after her boyfriend’s fatal climbing accident. Her path crosses with a deceptively charismatic stranger (Taron Egerton) whose “nice guy” facade quickly dissolves, revealing an apex predator with a stomach-turning penchant for turning his victims into jerky, which he sells in town. What follows is a relentless pursuit where the hunter becomes the hunted. A Brilliant Cast Charlize Theron delivers an uncompromising performance. She portrays a woman who isn’t just “fighting back” in the traditional sense; she is utilizing her athletic prowess and survival instincts to dismantle her captor. Theron has had many roles in many genres, including her gritty portrayal of a serial killer

Netflix Drops New Trailer for Series “The Boroughs” From the Duffer Bros.

The Duffer Brothers, the duo behind “Stranger Things, are trading Hawkins for a New Mexico retirement village. But this village isn’t just about shuffleboard and naps; something dangerous is hiding among the homes in “The Boroughs.” Paradise with a Pulse (Barely) Netflix’s new sci-fi series introduces us to Sam Cooper, a new resident who thinks his new community feels like a prison. Sam is convinced a monster is stalking the cul-de-sacs at night. And naturally, the authorities think Sam is just another confused old man. The Ultimate A-Team Sam teams up with a band of neighborhood misfits to fight back: a sharp-witted former journalist, a spiritual seeker, a cynical music manager, and a doctor with a dark secret. These seniors are overlooked and underestimated. That makes them dangerous. A Cast of Legends The talent roster is absolutely stacked with heavy hitters: Alfred Molina and Geena Davis
