Following the recent mass shootings, Universal Pictures has made the decision to halt the marketing and release of The Hunt, from director Craig Zobel and Blumhouse. While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film,“ the studio said in a statement. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visonary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.” You may be wondering what makes The Hunt so “controversial”. Short Film Review: Cole & Colette (2019)

Colette (Becca Buckalew) is a woman home alone doin’ a lil’ housework when she sees a news report detailing yet another missing woman in the area. Fortunately for her, the love of her life Cole (Matt McAbee) is heading home post-haste. Of course she doesn’t remain alone for long, but just who is in her house, and what do they truly want… Running just under six minutes, Cole & Colette packs a lot of suspense in it’s brief runtime…not to mention some great twists and turns. Writer Harker Jones along with Director Matt Boda actually manage to bring something new to that beloved horror biz trope; the stranger in the house…accompanied by news bulletins detailing a menace on the loose…seriously this shit was a “thing” all the way back in ’50’s era Tom and Jerry cartoons (Down Beat Bear for those of you keeping track at home)…probably even before, I’m not doing anymore research, my fingers are exhausted), yet it

Movie Review: Hellboy (2019)

I’ll be honest, as I sat down to watch Neil Marshall’s Hellboy last night, all of the negative feedback I have heard over the past few months had me expecting a complete failure of a film. Luckily, that’s not what I experienced. In fact, I found it the complete opposite. While the rest of the franchise looks bright and elegant, this movie is more gritty, darker. And to be honest, I like that. We are talking about a big red demon here. In the movie we find Hellboy fighting everything from humans to witches to big boars. There’s nearly non-stop action, but that’s not the main point of the movie in my opinion. Hellboy is struggling with identity, his purpose in life. His struggle mirrors the duality of man, part good, part evil, part man, part beast, a struggle that’s been the foundation of many epic films and stories for centuries. While it’s obvious Hellboy was created for evil, to
