Movie Review: Midday Demons (2018)

Artsy-fartsy Megan (Fiona Glascott) lives in Dublin with her Eye-talian-oh hubby Leo (Pietro Ragusa), who’s uncle, Monsignor Domenico, has just bought the farm, much to the frowny-face of ye olde Catholic church. To that end, off our duo go to southern Italy to settle the matter of the ancient castle Leo has come to own thanks to his inheritance. Along the way our heroes sure have a swell-ass time drinking in the local color, and in Leo’s case reuniting with old friends. Left alone during the hot Italian afternoon, Meg goes snoopin’ after some strange supernatural occurrences began to occur (as they often do) and begins to unravel some family secrets that aren’t so hot, and there are those that want those deep, dark doings to remain hidden. At first Midday Demons may seem like something familiar, and in a sense it truly is… but, it manages to take tropes from a couple of tried and true genres of our

Terror Films Teams Up With Streaming Service Horrify

U.S. based genre distributor Terror Films has closed a multi-picture content deal with Dutch Streaming service Horrify. The terms, which were negotiated at AFM between Terror Films President of Worldwide Distribution, Joe Dain and Horrify Director of Content and Programming, Lemke Roos will include 20 films such as the highly successful Hell House LLC franchise, the politically charged Savageland, Australian horror film, Inner Demon and the critically acclaimed ride-share thriller, End Trip – among others. This new partnership is one more step in expanding our digital footprint on a global scale. As we increasingly see less and less opportunity to secure sales for indie horror films in the more traditional foreign markets, these direct platform relationships help us diversify without the need for a 3rd party distributor”, stated Terror Films President Joe Dain. Horrify, which launched October 30th, 2018 has since become an instant success and is the largest horror-only steaming SVOD service in the Netherlands with currently over 350

Atlanta’s Buried Alive Film Festival Offers Witches, Werewolves, and Weirdness

The 2019 edition of Atlanta’s Buried Alive Film Festival is chock full of outstanding, outrageous horror features and shorts from around the world. The fest is scheduled for November 13–17 at 7 Stages Theatre. Following are the features that I am most looking forward to seeing, either for the first time or once again. My thoughts in italics follow the fest’s official descriptions for each film. Antrum: The Deadliest Movie Ever Made Dir. Michael Laicini and David Amito – USA – 95min Antrum, a feature length film shot in the late 1970’s, is cursed. In 1988, a movie theatre in Budapest that was screening the film burnt to the ground, killing the 56 people who were in attendance. This incident follows the inexplicable deaths of a number of film festival programmers that had received Antrum as a submission and died shortly after watching the film. These events culminated with a riot during an exhibition in San Francisco, after which the

‘Do Not Reply’ Trailer Urges You To Delete Your Profile

The psychological social horror Do Not Reply is set to premiere at the New York City Horror Film Festival on December 6th followed by its screening at Another Hole in the Head Film Festival on December 14th. The award-winning film from the father-son directing duo of Daniel Woltosz and Walt Woltosz centers on Chelsea, an introverted teen, who falls prey to a handsome young man, Brad. Texting leads to phone calls and she agrees to meet Brad – a social media predator and button-down psychopath – at a Halloween warehouse party. There she is drugged and abducted and wakes up alone, chained, and in a fortified house with other girls whom Brad intends to kill in his virtual-reality-filmed murders. A chilling social commentary on the perils of digital connections, the fictional film will have one screening at each festival. Do Not Reply was created to send an important message about social media abductions,” said co-Director Daniel Woltosz, who wrote, directed,

Movie Reviews: Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival

Special guest coauthor: Chris Weatherspoon The 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), the largest genre film fest in both its home of South Korea and of Asia as well, took place about a month earlier than its preceding editions (running June 27–July 7 this year) and delivered one of its strongest lineups in recent memory. BIFAN boasted horror, thriller, action, and other genre films of all stripes from around the world. Following are our thoughts on five of the fest’s offerings. Chris Weatherspoon: Irish horror-comedy Extra Ordinary is the feature debut for writing/directing team Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman. Comedian Maeve Higgins (Inside Amy Schumer) stars as Rose Dooley, a bumbling spinster who earns her living as a driving instructor; however, Rose is far from being an ordinary, lonely middle-aged woman, as the movie’s title notes. Rose has the ability to communicate with the dead and to exorcise ghosts, but a childhood incident has left her traumatized, and for
