In case you haven’t heard, there’s been a new boy band in town called The Slashstreet Boys, and they’re exactly what they sound like, slashers, well, famous Hollywood slashers that we all love. The YouTube channel The Merkins is home to the Slashstreet Boys who do parodies of songs by The Backstreet Boys but keep them in the realm of horror their biggest hit among fans being “I’ll Kill You That Way”, but each member of the group has their music video of them parodying songs that fit along with their story. The Merkins also do parodies of other songs using characters from other shows like the Night King from Game of Thrones. Slashstreet Boys consist of Michael Myers of the “Halloween” films, Jason Voorhees from “Friday the 13th”, Freddy Kruger “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, Ghostface “Scream”, and Leatherface of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Each member has their specialty in the group, Myers and Voorhees usually are killing it

Hello my Little Monsters, we are less than a week away from HorrorHound Weekend’s celebration of all things horror movie related. And what makes this year even more special is the fact that it’s HorrorHound’s 10th Anniversary convention. To celebrate this big occasion, the festivities (which run from Friday August 24th through Sunday the 26th) have been moved to more spacious digs at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. They are filling this large venue with over 50 celebrity guests from horror movies old and new, as well as over 100 special effects artists and mask makers at Mask Fest. Have you had enough yet? That’s good because there’s still more. There’s also numerous vendors, selling almost any kind horror related merch you could be looking for. Let’s also not forget about the HorrorHound 2018 Film Fest, as well as off site movie screenings at the Indiana State Museum’s IMAX Theater. Oh yeah, there’s also a kid’s costume contest,

In October, Funko will be releasing a new line of action figures featuring some of horror’s favorite fiends, “Savage World Horror”. For those who remember, the figures resemble the old He-Man action figures for the classic animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe”. For those who know what I’m talking about, you guessed it; our favorite horror icons are buffed up and armed to the teeth. Preorders are available now HERE, so if you’re interested, go check it out! The Sites Rotten Tomatoes ruined the summer 2017 boxoffice. The New York Times published this article on film review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes (read here). The site has been around almost twenty years. I was first introduced to it back in 2003-2004. As the Internet gained more of a foothold, Rotten Tomatoes expanded its base; and now, according to this article, its power to influence box office performance. Sounds like those parents who subscribe to the “not my kid” mentality. Couldn’t possibly be US, it has to be the school, society…anyone but us and the bad product we made. I wrote a similar article, which could be a companion piece (here) a few months earlier when another finger pointing article on RT got some press. Can a website that amasses critical reviews have so much impact on a film’s box office performance? Hollywood spins it both ways whenever convenient. Hello again, my Little Monsters. How lovely it is for you all to join me again on this Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday. As you can see the Woman of Horror we honor today is the wonderful Lin Shaye. This Detroit, MI native caught the acting bug when she attended the University of Michigan, where she was an Art Major. During her time there, Lin also appeared in as many dramatic productions as she could. After she completed her degree at Michigan, Lin moved to New York to enroll at Columbia University and also pursue an acting career on the stage. She would find roles off Broadway and OFF off Broadway, and would also earn herself a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Columbia. In 1975 Lin would start her career as a whore. WHOA, calm down. I’m not slut shaming or casting insults at her. Lin’s first listed credit was literally as a “whore” in the movie Hester

In honor of Halloween approaching (everyone’s favorite holiday) and whispers of the second remake happening (Kevin Bacon, anyone?) this #Odeto80s is on that 1986 Wes Craven classic: A Nightmare on Elm Street. WHERE IT CAME FROM: Wes Craven had already had horror movie success when he read a series of disturbing articles in the newspaper: “It was a series of articles in the LA Times, three small articles about men from South East Asia, who were from immigrant families and had died in the middle of nightmares—and the paper never correlated them, never said, ‘Hey, we’ve had another story like this.” Crave took this horrifying premise and paired it with his own terrifying childhood memory of a creepy man that had come to his window , and put a red and green striped sweater on it to create Freddy Krueger. In the opening scenes of many horror movies we’ve seen “Based on True Story” and it always seems to make the movies even more creepy. The Conjuring, Annabelle, Wolf Creek and An American Haunting are just a few examples. There are many other movies influenced by true stories, but here are a few of my favorites. Jaws This summer horror classic was inspired by a series of shark attacks that took place over twelve days along the Jersey Shore in 1916. Five people were attacked, only one survived. In July of that summer a seven foot Great White was caught. When the fisherman cut it up the middle body parts fell out of it’s stomach. The attacks stopped after the Great White was killed. The only thing scarier than Freddy Krueger, is another Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Another remake? Please wake me from this nightmare! As if the 140 plus remakes in the works wasn’t bad enough, New Line is doing another revamp of one of our most beloved horror franchises. David Leslie Johnson, the writer of 2009’s ‘Orphan’, is set to pen the script for the presently unnamed movie. No directer has been named as of yet. Reportedly the new movie will bypass the 2010 remake, completely. Too bad another reboot couldn’t be bypassed completely. As far as I’m concerned, there is only one Freddy, Robert Englund, so, unless he’s signed up, I’m not interested. Just in case you were wondering how Robert Englund felt about the 2010 remake, this should clear things up.
