Movie Review: Mara (2018)

After a man is strangled in his sleep, and twisted into a knot like one of those massive-ass mall pretzels, the police immediately blame the dude’s wife, no matter who vehemently their daughter blames someone called ‘Mara’. Enter criminal psychologist Kate Fuller (Olga Kurylenko) who investigates the claims of the accused and before you can say “Frederick Krueger” she discovers that ol’ Mara is a demon that murders people in their sleep. As our heroine presses on she discovers the deceased attended a support group for sufferers of sleep paralysis, and when she takes it upon herself to attend a meeting she finds that the participants all seem to be haunted by Mara (who marks her prey with one hell of a case of pink eye) who is offing them one by one while they get their snooze on. Sure as shit, ol’ Fear Fightin’ Fuller finds her self marked by our sleep stalker and the race is on to

Movie Review: Beyond the Grave (Porto dos Mortos – 2010)

In a post apocalyptic landscape a lone black clad lawman (Rafael Tombini) wanders in search of vengeance against an outre adversary; a demonically possessed serial killer (inspired in no small way by Stephen King’s great creation Randall Flagg). Along his journey our hero takes up with two teenage castaways who tag along on his dark mission, fights monsters and magic, and attempts to retain some semblance of his humanity as he stares further into the abyss of both his quest and the world he inhabits. Highly reminiscent of the D.Y.I., punk rock aesthetic of early ’90’s genre film trailblazers such as Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, Beyond the Grave presents a story that takes well established tropes and puts a slight spin on them, along with a kinetic energy that ends up being a bit like Mad Max meets Phantasm…a world of grim policemen in muscle cars fighting zombies and magic in dilapidated industrial districts and sprawling bucolic landscapes. ‘Terrified’ Is Making Waves At Film Festivals

Making its way around film festival circuits is an Argentinean film that’s making a big impact, Aterrados (Terrified). The movie overall, is a mix of a cop drama and horror. Aterrados (Terrified) is about a cop who’s heading towards retirement and he’s also known for having a big interest in paranormal investigating and because of his interest, he’s called in to investigate a series of strange deaths. The deaths are occurring in houses doors down from one another. The cop meets a well known paranormal investigator who’s handling a missing person case in the same area. The pair, along with other paranormal investigators, team up as they soon learn that the cases are all linked.

Hans Asperger: Autism’s Dr. Jekyll And Nazi Mr. Hyde

WARNING: The following information and images may be disturbing to some In a shocking twist that would be something out of a Hitchcock film, Hans Asperger, the Austrian Pediatrician, Medical Theorist, and a professor was on the wrong side of history, make that, the darkest wrong side of history. Though Asperger is known and celebrated for his research in childhood autism and discovering the higher functioning spectrum of it which was named after him (Asperger Syndrome), he was involved in a dark chapter in history many are not aware of, Action T4. On April 19, 2018, Molecular Autism published their findings after eight years of peer review concluding that Asperger, who has said in the past that he defended his patients against the Nazis, in fact, partook in Action T4 (Aktion T4) the systematically forced euthanasia of mentally handicapped children. She’s Back! Lindsay Lohan Returns With Werewolves

It’s been a while, but Hollywood’s favorite mean girl will soon return to the big screen in a new crime horror film, The Shadow Within. This will be Lohan’s first film since starring in the 2013 film The Canyons. The Shadow Within will be about a private detective (presumably played by Lohan) who’s trying to solve the murder of her uncle while keeping it a secret that she’s a descendant of werewolves. More information about the film is sparse and the film’s IMDB page seems to add to the confusion. What does not help is that there’s a movie with the same name that came out in 2007, mysteriously enough Lohan herself posted on Instagram a teaser poster for the film back in December but since has been removed. The fate of the picture is unknown whether or not it will howl its way to the big screen or whimper with its tail between its legs straight to DVD, all

Actor Mistaken As Robber And Shot At By Police On A Movie Set

A film shoot almost turned deadly when an actor on a movie set was mistaken by police as an armed robber. News station Fox 59 is reporting that in Crawfordsville, Indiana a call came into the police dept. reporting an armed robbery in progress at the Backstep Brewery on North Green Street. When police arrived they spotted a man in a ski mask exiting the building with a gun in his hand. The officers told the man to drop his weapon. Upon the command the robber, who in reality was actor Jim Duff, he turned to face the officers and was shot at. After the shot was fired he dropped the gun (a movie prop), pulled off the mask and told officers, “This is a movie set”. Duff was detained during the investigation to confirm that it was indeed a movie filming. Officers said that they fired because they felt their life was in danger. All of the cameras and

Billy Milligan…And 24 Others – The True Story That Inspired “Split”

Night Shyamalan movies have frankly been a little flat lately. He had some great films with Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and a smattering of others (Check out his 2010 film Devil) but for the most part in his recent history it has been flub after flub. However, I am extremely intrigued and interested in his new movie Split which is about a man navigating through a life of 23 multiple personalities. This film is loosely based on the life of William (Billy) Stanley Milligan who was also an influence for the 1996 thriller Primal Fear. Mulligan is the first person to be acquitted of multiple major crimes by claiming that his other personalities – and therefore, other people – committed the crimes. Billy Milligan was born in 1955 in Ohio to Dorothy Milligan and Johnny Morrison. The unwed couple had three children and did not create a good environment for their little family. Johnny drank a lot, was in gambling debt,
