Gaming: The Evolution Of A Billion Dollar Industry

Video Games, the mention of that word brings up many images the most common one being someone who’s wasting their life over “Cheap” entertainment. Well, a gamer like me and others can say one thing; it’s an expensive hobby and we get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Video Games and Gaming itself has evolved over the years and has developed a strong subculture and industry that brings in billions of dollars a year, combining revenue made by the Gaming industry in 2017 they made $108 Billion in total, more than oil company Gazprom made last year ($102.1B)! A recent Info graph by website HistoryDegree.Net shows that not only is the gaming world changing but so is the profits made by companies. Video Games started off as the beloved and hated quarter-eating arcade games that you would find in stores, restaurants, and malls the first and most notable game, Pong. That changed in 1972 when the new concept of

A ‘Walking Dead’ Game Fans Can Sink Their Teeth Into

Most gamers who are fans of AMC’s acclaimed hit series, ‘The Walking Dead’, are used to the popular Telltale Episodic game series by the same name but fans can rejoice getting the game they feel they deserve with a first-person co-op shooting game that’s being developed by Overkill, known for their hit first person shooting heist co-op series ‘Payday’. ‘Overkill’s The Walking Dead’ will offer players a chance to play as new characters and a new storyline which from what I can only assume takes place in Washington D.C. as the game’s tagline is “In 2018, Washington will fall. What will you do?” The game promises to stay true to the ‘Walking Dead’ comics and even has the creator Robert Kirkman on bored teaming up with Overkill and offering ‘Payday 2’. Fans have a chance to unlock their very own ‘Lucille’, the barbwire-wrapped baseball bat used by the notorious antagonist in both the comics and television series, Negan. The game

Gun Media is gearing up to release Friday the 13th: The Game and it is going to be epic. The “Hellfire” version of Jason was offered only as pre-order special on Backerkit and as a Kickstarter reward. His eyes glow behind burnt, black flesh streaked with fire, and he’s armed with the Devil’s pitchfork. Savini isn’t new to the Friday the 13th franchise. He designed the original version of Jason for the 1980 film, as well Jason in The Final Chapter. The single-player component will arrive this Summer. Those who funded the campaign will have early access to the beta, which includes a code to to make it shareable with up to four players, before the end of this year. COD Zombies – Shadows of Evil Review

With every new year comes a new Call of Duty. It has joined Death and Taxes on the list of inevitabilities. Thankfully, Black Ops 3 once again gives us the pleasure of blasting the heads off of shambling corpses. I’ll be honest, it’s the main reason I bought the game. Ever since they were introduced back in World at War, I have been an avid zombie hunter. This year, they changed it up a bit -although it does borrow some mechanics from older maps. Previous games have had well known faces and voices in your control as you take on the hordes of undead, and this one is no different. We get Neal McDonough (Arrow, Minority Report), Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, The Hangover), Ron Pearlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), and my personal favourite – Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day, Jurassic Park). All based in a 40’s era noir-esque map accompanied by some catchy jazz riffs. However, even with others boasting awesome

Norman Reedus Still Wants Silent Hills

There were very few smiles the day Silent Hills was stricken from Konami’s roster. In fact I feel bad for even bringing it up. But not for good reason! There’s a silver lining to this tale of woe. It might not be a “HOLY SHIT GUYS THEY ARE MAKING IT!” silver lining, but it’s good to hear nonetheless. Norman Reedus has recently stated that he is still totally down for the game to be made. Even though Konami has axed the project, Reedus has faith that Del Toro, Kojima will still be able to collaborate in the future on another project. I mean, with petitions going around the web since the announcement of the cancellation reaching thousands signatures, someone is bound to jump on to complete this project and get it done. Del Toro also gave his two cents on why he thinks it would have been a great experience for gamers. Word is, they were trying something new when

Alien: Isolation – A Review

They say in space, no one can hear you scream. Which is most definitely true. However, the same cannot be said for here on Earth. Thanks to this game, I’m pretty sure my neighbours suspect I either scream like a girl, or have one tied up in my murder room. I’ve played quite a few horror games in my day, but few succeed in keeping up the novelty of the scares until the end. Alien: Isolation manages to make this limited list. Developed by Creative Assembly, Isolation takes place 15 years after the original Alien movie, you play as Amanda Ripley – daughter of the iconic Ellen Ripley – as she searches for answers to her mother’s disappearance. Her chance arises when she learns the flight recorder of the Nostromo has been discovered and the ship that found it is currently resting at the space station Sevastopol. So off you go to find some answers about the fate of your

Perception – A Look Into Blind Horror

The Deep End Games is trying something new in the genre of horror gaming. Much like other games, Perception puts a near defenceless character in a scenario filled with the unexplainable and the unsettling. However this time, your protagonist is blind. Yeah, you heard me, not deaf, blind. The story follows Cassie, a young woman who must use her wits and superior sense of hearing to solve the mysteries that plague the abandoned estate of Echo Bluff. Now, don’t worry, because the game isn’t going to just throw you into a dark room and expect you to fumble your way out. In fact it’s quite the opposite. You are geared to take on the haunts with a unique ‘echolocation’ style of sight, where every sound triggers a ripple, allowing you to see what’s around. Yet, even with that, your vision is still limited and leaves you wide open for scares; both subtle and in yo’ face. Especially since you are

Romero’s Aftermath Staying Strong

It’s been roughly a month since Romero’s Aftermath released their Open Beta on Steam and it has been going fairly steady. The Free-to-Play game now has over 1 million players, and while Free Reign Entertainment has gotten some flak in the past, it seems they have changed their ways and learned from their past mistakes. The game may still be chock full of micro-transactions, most are for aesthetic customization, but the others that actually enhance gameplay – weapon upgrades, shelter crafting, etc. – can all be acquired in game, albeit through hours upon hours of gameplay. While it does seem to try and steer you towards spending more money, it’s not at all necessary to enjoy the game. Zombies show up frequently enough that you’re not just wandering for hours with nothing, and there’s enough people playing at any one time that you constantly need to watch your back for other players. It lags here and there, but keep in
