New Trailer Takes Us To Jordan Peele And J.J. Abrams’ “Lovecraft Country”

H.P. Lovecraft’s uniquely terrifying world collides with the Jim Crow era south in the new trailer for HBO’s new series “Lovecraft Country,” from executive producers J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele. Based on the novel Matt Ruff, the first season takes viewers on a road trip through the 1950s, where threats of both racism and supernatural terrors loom. In the series, Atticus Black, his friend Letitia, and his uncle George embark on a road to try to find his missing father. Instead, Atticus is caught in a fight for survival and must overcome the racist terrors of America and terrifying monsters that could have been ripped from the pages of an H.P. Lovecraft novel. “Lovecraft Country” surfaces on HBO this August.

Lovecraft In Spaaaaace! Game Review: ‘Moons Of Madness’

Rock Pocket Games and Funcom have allowed me to play their Lovecraft inspired first-person horror game, Moons of Madness for the Xbox One. Moons of Madness has already been released on PC and received high praise by many before finally being released onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One today. In Moons of Madness, you take on the role of Shane Newhart, a lowly engineer with a level 1 security clearance working on a station on Mars. After waking from a nightmare and having to get back to work maintaining the facility, things start to go weird…and very wrong and somehow Shane’s past is involved. Onto the game itself: Moons of Madness is heavily narrative-driven and you’re along for the ride, very much like the “Layers of Fear” games, Narcosis, and Observer, where players have to solve puzzles to continue the narration and may have to run away from danger rather than fighting it. With what was mentioned above, as you

Book Review: The Necronomnomnom: Recipes and Rites From The Lore Of H. P. Lovecraft (2019)

When I think of H.P. Lovecraft images of nausea inducing creatures and indescribable madness come to mind… and possibly Jeffrey Combs… definitely not mouth watering cuisine though. Well, someone had the idea those two things should be slapped together and thus The Necronomnomnom was birthed! Thankfully author Mike Slater and editor Thomas Roache are obviously huge fans of ol’ H to the P and actually present the recipes in a style that reads as a reasonable pastiche of the author’s writing. This creates a Cthulhu sized amount of fun for the reader, even if they aren’t attempting to whip up any of the demonic dishes being described. Speaking of arcane ambience, this beastly book is loaded to Dagon’s gills with absolutely stunning illustrations courtesy of artist Kurt Komoda, that accompany the recipes. While these eerie etchings are a wonder to behold, yours cruelly did find it a bit odd that there are no actual photographs of the fearsome food at

Game Review: Lovecraft Floods The Streets In ‘The Sinking City’

You thought your daily commute is bad? Try being a citizen of Oakmont, their streets are flooded and things are starting to get crazy, figuratively and literally! Frogwares and Bigben Interactive were kind enough to allow me to experience their game that’s flooding with Lovecraftian horrors like the streets of Oakmont. I present to you, The Sinking City. In this third-person RPG, you take on the role of former U.S. Navy Sailor turned Private Eye Charles S. Reed. Reed came to the fictional island of Oakmont to find answers to his nightmares and visions he’s been having since the war as it appears many people on the island are experiencing the same phenomenon. Upon arriving at the island, Reed learns that the city is falling into ruin as a great flood has taken place and strange creatures are coming from the flood waters and a mysterious force is calling to those inflicted with nightmares and visions… Onto the game itself!

Lovcraftian Looking Fossil Named After Cthulhu

Scientists have discovered the fossilized remains of a previously undiscovered prehistoric sea cucumber species and compared to their modern descendants, these old ones (pun intended) are something out of a nightmare…a Lovecraftian nightmare! The 430 million-year-old fossil was scanned using 3-D technology and was able to trace out the body and its many tentacle-like legs. It’s believed that these legs were used to help the animal crawl around the sea bed and where covered in a flexible armor. According to the findings that were published by an international team, the creature is being called, Sollasina Cthulhu. Sollasina’s are a class of prehistoric Echinoderms. Modern and older species in this class share the same traits that they’re armored with a flexible skin that sometimes has spines on them, the most notable modern species would be starfishes, sea urchins, and of course sea cucumbers. Cthulhu, if you already don’t know, is a fictitious creature created by horror icon H.P. Lovecraft in his

Blu-ray Review: The Unnamable (1988)

In the 18th century, ol’ Joshua Winthrop is having some troubles with his teenage daughter Alyda…who just so happens to be a blood crazed demonic monster afraid of thunder and lightning. (Fuckin’ kids, amirite?) Anyway, she performs the murder biz on the geezer. Flash forward to the eerie eighties and our boy Randolph Carter (Mark Kinsey Stephenson) and his chums are chit-chatting in a graveyard (as one does) and their pal Joel gets the brilliant idea to spend the night in the Winthrop house to see if any supernatural shenanigans ensue. Well Joel does just that, and he gets his ass eaten (not literally…I mean the monster gets him) unbeknownst to his pals. Soon it’s up to remaining members of the group to investigate the arcane abode, but not before some frat boys and their gal pals visit the house to increase the body count…or make out…whatever. Will any of our heroes survive the centuries long rage of Alyda and

A Psychological Tightrope: Final Thoughts Of ‘The Call Of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game’

Since my review of “The Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game”, I’ve played the game twice and have enough to give my final thoughts. The following will contain spoilers as I explain the overall main plot as it may be confusing to those who have played the game and have questions, but at the end (My final thoughts) are spoiler free if you wish to skip down to that. SPOILERS AHEAD! Some of the information I’ll skip over as it’s been mentioned in my review. On the island of Darkwater, the locals are obsessed with a legendary story about the “Miraculous Catch”, the whaling community was starving as the whales seemed to have vanished from the waters surrounding the island in the 1840’s. One whaling ship came back missing half its crew that was lost during the fight to catch this gigantic “Whale” that fed the entire island. Three of the island’s inhabitants, Captain Fitzroy, Dr. Fuller, and Jack
