Future “Cloverfield” Films Will Make It To The Theatre

The Super Bowl’s biggest surprise wasn’t The Patriot’s defeat, (fly Eagles fly!) but the release of “The Cloverfield Paradox” on Netflix, right after the game. The Cloverfield Franchise has a history of unique marketing, but announcing the impending release of an entry in one of cinema’s most intriguing franchises just hours in advance is pretty ballsy. The next film in the series however, the WW2 set Overlord will be making it’s way to theaters, according to thewrap.com. Netflix reportedly paid $5o Million dollars to Paramount for the exclusive right’s to Paradox, a hefty price tag the company might not be keen to repeat. Paradox has so far been panned by critics, with a score of 21 on Rotten Tomatoes to most recent entry 10 Cloverfield Lane’s 90. Netflix doesn’t typically release viewership numbers, but The Super Bowl itself was viewed by 103 million people. That’s a whole lot of eyes on an ad, even if a few people got up

John Carpenter Skipped A Few Of Those Terrible “Halloween” Sequels

Out of the 10 films in the Halloween franchise, one’s a master piece, two are good, one (Season of the Witch) is an underrated outlier, and 6 are pretty much crap. There’s a lot of convoluted and pretty terrible mythology, turning Michael Myers, one of horror’s most terrifying human monsters into a muddled mess of Shatner masks and kitchen knives. Full disclosure, I haven’t seen every Halloween film. But hey, neither has John Carpenter! But with the newest entry, Carpenter hopes to bring the 40 year old franchise back to its roots. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Carpenter admitted he had skipped a few entries of the franchise he founded stating “You know, you know I talked about the Halloweens for a long time, the sequels — I haven’t even seen all of them. I don’t even know what really was there.” Carpenter has only had sporadic involvement in the film world the past few years, last releasing poorly

Does “A Serbian Film” Go Too Far?

Throughout the decades of horror history, a whole lot of films have been claimed to be the hardest watches ever made. Peeping Tom in the 60’s, Salo, in the 70’s, the gamut of Japanese Guinea Pig films, and in the 80’s, and stuff like the French new wave and Asian extreme in the 00’s. But since its release in 2011, no film has even come close to what very might be the pinnacle of cinematic revulsion, “A Serbian Film”. I won’t be discussing the most intimate details of this film because A: They are based around topics not easily discussed even on a horror sight and B: The scene’s content, for the question I’m seeking to answer, doesn’t really matter. Suffice to say these two scenes are absolutely the most extreme I’ve ever seen in a film, and I imagine that nearly anyone who doesn’t dabble in actual snuff films will have seen. To put it bluntly, this is some

Devil’s Rejects Sequel Gets New Title

It’s been 13 years since the Firefly family met their bloody end on a long stretch of family, but “The Devil’s Rejects” will ride again in a long-awaited sequel from director Rob Zombie. Details have been few and far between since the film was announced last October, but if a report from Screenrant is accurate, the sequel could be getting a supernatural twist. The reported title is “The Devil’s Reject’s 2: Three From Hell.” The three, crazy chick Baby, long-haired hillbilly Otis, and killer clown Captain Spaulding are three of the most deliciously demented characters in film history. Any return from these crazy characters is a welcome return. While there haven’t been supernatural elements previously in the series, it doesn’t seem like a stretch that Zombie would find some mystical way to resurrect them. After all, Heaven doesn’t want them and Hell’s afraid they’ll take over!

GODZILLA: MONSTER PLANET Is A Kaiju Sized Misfire

Godzilla film’s have always been best enjoyed with a beer (or two…maybe just break out the whiskey), but “Monster Planet” is the first film in the long series that is best enjoyed with the television off. There’s no drug on Earth potent enough to help me enjoy this trash. Granted I’m coming at this film as a Godzilla fan, not an anime aficionado. I’m familiar enough with the big series, but I’d by know means describe myself as a fan of anime. Still, I struggle to see even the most trash consuming, self hating, katana carrying, selfdescribed weeaboo in Japan seeing “Monster Planet as anything beyond an utter failure. The one thing “Monster Planet” has in common with 2014’s Godzilla reboot is it’s utter lack of the titular monster. Seriously, Godzilla’s in this thing for like, 15 minutes. It’s a cartoon, so budget restraints aren’t a problem. Or maybe they were, as 90 percent of the animation is poorly dubbed,

New Horror Wrestling Movie PARTS UNKNOWN Enters The Ring

Wrestling and horror goes together like peanut-butter and chocolate (or for a more morbid example, like horny camp counselors and machetes.) Elaborate origin stories, crazy costumes, and of course all the bone rattling, chair swinging, ladder elbow dropping violence you can handle. Suffice to say when word got round of new wrestling horror movie “PARTS UNKOWN” I got excited. Currently in post production, the film from “GILGAMESH” director Richard Chandler is scheduled to drop this spring. Released by the Boston Film Family, a Massachusetts based production company who specializes in grind house releases, the film will feature Chandler’s “signature use of unusual characters, bizarre scenarios, and stylized violence.” I’m not personally familiar with Chandler’s work, but the man certainly has moxy. Wrestling saw something of an uptick in 2017 with the release of Netflix series “GLOW”, and a horror film starring sexy badass ladies in spandex might be just the thing to capitalize on the resurgence. With the film releasing

Syfy’s New Year’s “Twilight Zone” Marathon Episode Slate Announced

For us younger horror fans Syfy’s annual New Year’s marathon was the first exposure we got to “The Twilight Zone”, arguably the most influential, and I would say the best, science fiction show ever made. Really, there’s nothing I can tell you about it you don’t already know; the twists, the horror, Rod Sterling’s perfect narration. And while it’s a lot easier nowadays to check out “Twilight Zone” due to Netflix and the internet and what not, New Years Syfy used to be one of the only ways to catch it. If for tradition if nothing else, I’ll be tuning in this New Years to watch some of the best television ever made. Part one of the schedule has already been released via The Night Gallery. Sunday, December 31, 2017 4:00am – The Howling Man 4:30am – Where is Everybody? 5:00am – The Thirty-Fathom Grave 6:00am – Mirror Image 6:30am – The Last Rites of Jeff Myrtlebank 7:00am – A

The Italians have made a whole lot of crazy film’s but “Death Laid an Egg” might just be the most bird brained of the bunch. Featuring all the trademarks of a classic giallo, the film synopsis is as follows; “A love triangle develops between three people who run a high tech chicken farm. It involves Anna (who owns the farm), her husband Marco (who kills prostitutes in his spare time) and Gabriella (the very beautiful secretary). Marco continues to kill as jealousy becomes more prevalent on the farm.” Who wouldn’t want to watch a film about chickens looking on in horror as murder unfolds? “Death Laid an Egg is available to purchase here”

“Aliens: Zone of Silence” Available Now On VOD

Mexican deserts, extraterrestrial abductions, and more flying saucers than you can shake a tinfoil hat at combine in “Aliens: Zone of Silence”, now available on VOD. A found footage alien abduction film, “Zone of Silence” is the feature debut of director Andy Fowler, a former vice president of visual effects with Disney. Film’s he’s worked on include “San Andres”, “TRON: Legacy”, and “Noah”. Set in a large swath of Mexican desert known as “La Zona del Silencio” (Zone of Silence) the film follows a young woman seeking out her younger brother, who went missing in the area while searching for aliens. Personally I wouldn’t venture anywhere theres a chance of getting my ass probed by E.T. but hey, gotta protect the fam right? If physical media is your thing, you can pick up the Blu-ray on Amazon as well. Sounds like the perfect film to kill some time waiting around in the searing heat of the desert looking for aliens.
