Movie Review: Killer Kate! (2018)

Kate (Alexandra Feld) and Angie (Danielle Burgess) are estranged sisters that haven’t said a word to one another since Angie went to college and left Kate to care for their sick father. Years later, in an attempt to patch that shit up, Angie invites Kate to her bachelorette party held at a remote house (booked on a “not quite” Air BnB…and held on Halloween no less). The women booze it up, plow down some cake, and remain blissfully unaware that they are walking into the machinations of a psychotic family of amateur killers (and professional idiots) who are a lil’ green at the murder biz. Soon these jokers are in way over their heads as they attempt to kill Kate and company, but find themselves up against a savage ass kicker they didn’t bargain on! Killer Kate! has a fantastic premise, as we see both the gang of goofs that are destined to be victims, and the (ridiculous) group of

Movie Review: Queen Dracula (2017)

The long and short of Queen Dracula goes as follows: in a modern day twist on Bram Stoker’s classic, widower Jonathan Harker (Danny Zanelotti) travels to Transylvania and becomes under the spell of Queen Dracula…and imagine the surprise of Jon-boy’s daughters Lucy (Emily Miller) and Mina (Abigail G. Holmes) when they meet their potential new step-mother “D”; a real fang banger that’s out to put the bite on anyone that stands in her way! I’m not going to mince words…Queen Dracula is one of the most amateur productions I have put my eerie eyeballs on in a damn sight. Filmed on…I don’t rightly know…but I will tell you it has zero cinematography, lighting, professional (or in some cases even competent) acting or special effects (though Q.D.’s contact lenses are cool), this film is absolutely the equivalent of the S.O.V. material you would find on video store shelves in the late 1980’s…and you know what; fucking kudos to Writer/Director Curtis Everitt

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum Makes Headlines Over Remark Just Before Halloween Debuts

Only days before Halloween‘s arrival in theaters producer Jason Blum‘s name is making headlines and not in a good way. During an interview with Matt Patches of Polygon asked the head of Blumhouse about one flaw in the genre powerhouse’s eleven years, why Blumhouse has never released a film with a female director. Jason Blum’s response has left some critics and fans in shock and a bit ticked off. We’re always trying to do that. We’re not trying to do it because of recent events. There are not a lot of female directors period and even less who are inclined to do horror. I’m a massive admirer of Jennifer Kent [director of The Babadook]. I’ve offered her every movie we’ve had available. She’s turned me down every time.” Blum also stated that he had spoken with Honeymoon director Leigh Janiak but was unable to get her due to her involvement with the upcoming reboot of The Craft. Reportedly she was

Movie Review: President Evil (2018)

When I read the the title President Evil, I assumed this was going to be a flick about a zombie President…but from the opening credits I think we are in for some sort of Trump based parody of Halloween…because, yes…reasons…of course…okay… Anyway, our Trump surrogate “David” goes on a kill spree as a youth and gets locked up in a sanitarium. He soon escapes and…look; it’s Halloween with “The Donald”, just like I said…there’s countless “jokes” that reference the current disappointing shit storm our country has become…and all of it is instantly dated which only hurts the film’s re-watchability…I don’t even know how to review this thing… In the plus column; the cast is game for the satire at hand, and the fact that the filmmakers have a sense of social conscience, as well as an honest appreciation of Carpenter’s slasher classic is never in doubt…plus the film is shot and mixed well. In the negative column; the humor is

Blu-ray Review: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Dr. Miles J. Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) returns to his bucolic town after attending a medical convention to find the citizenry changed in subtle ways, such as a lack of genuine emotion and the fact that some folks claim their relatives are not whom they appear to be. Soon Miles gets caught up in the craziness after he is called on to investigate a body…a body with a face that remains unfinished and possesses no fingerprints. Things then go completely off the rails, as our hero discovers that plant-born changelings are taking he place of the townsfolk and he’s in for the fight of his life to stop their other-worldly machinations! Full of fantastic performances (with McCarthy being a spirited and game lead that goes from jovial to completely panic-stricken with equal aplomb, as well as notable appearances from Carolyn Jones, Dana Wynter, Larry Gates, and King Donovan…not to mention a cameo by Sam Peckinpah), a palpable sense of dread and

Learn the Art of Death when A Beginner’s Guide To Snuff is unleashed on October 16th!

A fake snuff goes terribly wrong in director Mitchell Altieri‘s horror comedy A Beginner’s Guide to Snuff, starring Joey Kern (Cabin Fever, Super Troopers), Bree Williamson (“Haven”, “Gossip Girl”), and Luke Edwards (“True Detective”). In the film, “two brothers decide to make most convincing pseudo-snuff film EVER and decide not to tell the Victim that it’s “staged” – of course, the brothers’ whole plan goes south – as they picked the wrong victim and soon find the tables turned on them!!” This Butchers Brothers film, produced by Jeff Allard (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is set to be released on October 16, 2018.

Movie Review: I Still See You (2018)

A decade after an apocalyptic lab accident left the world permanently haunted by visible,though silent, ghosts, Goth sad sack (is there any other kind really…I’m joking; you know me and the clove cigarette crowd is tight) Roni (Bella Thorne) encounters a new specter, Brian (Thomas Elms), that imparts a dire message to “run” written on her bathroom mirror. Spoiler: she doesn’t; rather Roni decides to tell her teacher, Mr. Bittner (Dermot Mulroney) about the event, but although he is extremely knowledgeable in the beings that now walk among us, believes that she is spoutin’ some straight up bullshit. Thankfully every cinematic high school has an edgy loner just itching to accompany a hot chick into ball shriveling terror, and this case it’s brood-machine Kirk (Richard Harmon) who does the deed. Now our heroes are on a mission to find out Brian’s identity and figure out just what danger is waiting for Roni! To start things off on a positive note;

Movie Review: The Church (2018)

Pastor James (horror legend Bill Moseley) is the sole hold out on a plan to gentrify the city and therefore bring some wealth to the neighborhood where his ancient church stands. Of course those shifty folks behind the plan won’t take no for an answer and soon the spirits that dwell within the church begin to carry out their preternatural plan to show their dissatisfaction of giving up their holy dwelling. So what’s good with The Church? Well for starters it has some fine performances from some horror legends such as the aforementioned Moseley, Lisa Wilcox, and Clint Howard turn in solid acting with what they are given. Also, the basic concept of the “anything but holy” goings-on inside of an ancient church is solid fright flick grist for the monstrous mill…in other words, that shit worked before, it works well, and it works here as well. Unfortunately, that’s where my good will towards this picture ends… On the negative

Movie Review: Followed (2018)

Drop the Mike host…Mike (Matthew Solomon)…I mean what did you expect the dude’s name to be, Aloysius? Anyway, Mike is an annoying vlogger (which is as redundant as saying “wet rain”) who in a desperate grab for the almighty sponsorship dollar decides to spend the night in a hotel with a haunted past, along with his crew. As they settle in, they begin to learn of the sinister secrets that lie within the dread dwelling (including a complete rip-off of the true life case of Elisa Lam). Soon things go completely off the rails as our heroes are subjected to an ever growing preternatural presence that may prove their undoing! On the one hand, Followed has a strong, if well tread, premise…the haunted hotel is a horror trope for a reason; it works! This film does a good job of building the mythology of the place, which adds to the overall sense of world building…which is absolutely essential as this

Short Film Review: The Devil and I (2018)

In Colonial Canada, a woman (Ariel Hansen) with an uneasy lot in life takes some verbal tongue lashin’ from a real son of a bitch of a man (James Kingstone)…a son of a bitch that freezes into a human statue as a large talking dog appears (yeah, sometimes I can’t believe the shit I type for this website either…but trust me, this is actually handled in a completely serious and somber manner). Any way it seems our heroine has been having affair with the man’s wife, and before you can say Son of Sam(uel Adams), that preternatural pup (played by Apollo with voice provided by Jesse Inocalla) gives our protagonist a plan to make things go her way. With it’s unique, period setting and near-fairy tale vibe, The Devil and I is an entertaining slice of short fright flick deviltry. Adding to the overall vibe of the piece are authentic costumes and manners of speaking that reflect the film’s 1800’s
