The Best Thriller Movies for Sports Fans

While we were trying to make a list of specifically horror films for this list, we decided we had to branch out a bit – as sports horror (sometimes listed under the subgenre “sports”) was quite limited to b- movies and even c movies. So, switching our search to thrillers made it easier to add a few better-quality films. The Fan – Baseball Starring Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes – the fan tells the story of obsessive fan Gil Renard (De Niro) excited over his favorite baseball team – the San Francisco Giants – adding three-time MVP Bobby Rayburn (Snipes) to their roster. As Rayburn struggles in his first season with the team, Renard takes it upon himself to help Rayburn get back to playing at an MVP. Renard is not helping him out by doing his cooking, picking up his dry cleaning, or giving him rollover betting tips – no it involves much more nefarious behavior, eventually devolving

Blu-ray Review: JAWS (1975) 45th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD

JAWS is one of the most iconic fright flicks of the sinister seventies, and as is befitting a creature classic like this, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is givin’ the auld toothy fellow the 4k Ultra treatment… which I just so happen to have in front of my eerie eyeballs as we speak… err, read… whatever… For the none of you that are unfamiliar with JAWS, the story can be boiled down as follows: the beachfront summer destination of Amity up New England way is having a bit of trouble as the summer season nears, and with it the big July 4th celebration… people just keep getting eaten by a rather large shark; not exactly what you’d expect from a small Maine town. Naturally the town’s mayor is not going to let common sense get in the way of the almighty dollar, and he’s prepared to let things go on as usual (an opinion only bolstered by the discovery and elimination

Where Can ‘The Terror’ Go Next?

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the anthology series “The Terror”. The first season was based on the book of the same name by Dan Simmons that follows the doomed Franklyn Expedition that was looking for the Northwest Passage in the arctic. The story follows the crew’s attempt to survive being stuck in the ice while being hunted by a supernatural beast. The second season titled “Infamy” was an original story that took place during WWII and followed Japanese American characters dealing with the horrors of war-time racism while at the same time being haunted by a spirit ripped right out of Japanese folklore. The concept of adding horror elements occurring alongside historical events is quite intriguing and fun. At the moment there’s no word about a third season (which I hope there will be one!) but till then the question remains if the series is going to continue the historical horror anthology premise, where could the series

We Want You…To Watch These 8 Patriotic Horror Films On The 4th Of July

Jaws (1975) Set over the July 4th weekend, Jaws centers on a battle between a giant shark and three men out to catch it before it kills again. The Shining (1980) While most of the film has nothing to do with the 4th of July, there is one scene that ties it to the holiday. If you look closely at the picture that shows Jack Nicholson’s image in a crowded photo you will see that the picture is labeled as being taken at a 4th of July celebration which is enough to land the classic on this list. Final Destination 3 (2006) When one student’s premonition of a roller coaster disaster saves her and her friends’ lives death tries to put things right. After several friends are claimed by death the survivors run into each other at a 4th of July celebration where all hell breaks loose. The third installment of the franchise is filled with great kills. Uncle Sam

Ten Horror Films Actually In Need Of A Remake

The list of really good to near-perfect horror flicks that have been given the remake treatment in the last two decades is staggering, and doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’, ‘The Fog’, ‘Halloween’, ‘Fright Night’, and so many others have been remade, reworked, or rebooted for a modern audience, nearly always resulting in a film inferior to the original. This abhorrent trend must stop, I say! Here are ten far-from-perfect movies that, unlike the aforementioned examples, could actually use a solid remake. ‘Ghoulies’ (1985) – One subgenre of horror sorely missing these days is the “small creature” movie. With the ‘Gremlins’, ‘Critters’, ‘Munchies’, and ‘Ghoulies’ series of films, creepy little creatures were everywhere in the 1980s and early 1990s. While ‘Gremlins’ is a masterpiece, and ‘Critters’ is really good, aside from cool creature design and an excellent poster that terrified many an eighties kid in the video store, ‘Ghoulies’ is pretty terrible,

Dive Into These 15 Aquatic Horror Films Set in Water

It’s that time of year again; the temperature is rising, and thoughts of waves, sandy beaches, exotic locations, or the local watering hole are filling your daydreams. While the water looks calm and inviting, it would serve you well to remember that just below the surface, nightmares are lurking. And we have a list of great films to remind you of that. Jaws (1975) When a giant great white begins to attack people in the waters of a small island community, the police chief, a marine biologist, and a grizzled fisherman set out to hunt it down. Jaws is a true classic that will never be outdone (that’s my opinion). Recently a deleted clip, deemed to graphic for the film, has surfaced. You can watch it HERE. The Shallows (2016) The Shallows stars Blake Lively as Nancy, a woman surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a Great White and stranded just a short distance from

Dive Into A Movie Marathon With These 10 Great Shark Films

When summer arrives and the temperature begins to rise one of the first things that comes to mind is the beach, the cool water of the ocean and fun in the sun. But movies like The Shallows and Jaws capture the fear that comes with not knowing what lurks below the surface and just how fierce and relentless sharks can be. What better way to celebrate the summer than to dive into a marathon of shark movies. There are hundreds of shark movies out there, however, most are cheesy and ridiculous. This list does not include those. Here are a few of our favorite serious movies starring sharks. Jaws (1975) When a giant great white begins to attack people in the waters of a small island community, the police chief, a marine biologist and a grizzled fisherman set out to hunt it down. A Deleted Scene Surfaces From Jaws

As summer time arrives our thoughts begin to drift to sun-drenched beaches and the deep water beyond. I don’t know about you, but when I think about the beach, the first thing that comes to mind is not bikini-clad women or the men strutting their stuff, it’s the water and the distinct possibility that a shark is lurking nearby, all thanks to Jaws, which was released on this day on this day (June 20th) in 1975. Directed by Stephen Spielberg and written by Carl Gottlieb and Peter Benchley, based on his novel, Jaws forever changed the way we see sharks. It made some fear the water, others (like me) it made them want to get into the water more than ever. Did you know that there is a scene from Jaws that never made it onto the film? The reason, it was deemed too graphic, too shocking for audiences to handle. It shows the death of Alex Kitner, a young
