Movie Review: Luz (2018)

Luz Carrara (Luana Velis) comes a-stumblin’ into a German police station, and over the course of an appropriately dark and stormy night we learn that there is something horribly wrong with L-dawg…perhaps Satanically so. Enter: Commissioner Bertillon (Nadja Stübiger) and her translator Olarte (Johannes Benecke) who decide to call in police psychiatrist Doctor Rossini (Jan Bluthardt) to make an attempt at solving the mystery of just why Luz is fucked up six ways to Sunday. Meanwhile more of Luz’s past is revealed by her former classmate Nora Vanderkurt (Julia Riedler), as she talks to none other than Rossini in a local watering hole…and that convo reveals the supernatural gift ol’ Luz is burdened with, some of which has been passed on to Nora who eventually ends up suckin’ face with the good Doc…which would be cool except for that glowing pie-hole and demonic possession bag. Will humanity survive this evil curse? Simply put; Luz is a rock solid throwback to

Blu-ray Review: Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)

You know how you release one of the most successful and iconic horror films of all time, sit around four years and snort a mountain of blow and say “Shit, we really should make a sequel to this thing…but I’ve never been a fan of screenplays or logic…aaaand action!”? Yeah, me either, but I’d bet demons to doughnuts that is pretty damn close to how Exorcist II: The Heretic came to be. We pick up the narrative with a now teen-age Regan (Linda Blair) seeing a new-age shrink on the regular, and it is at one such appointment that she says she has almost zero recollection of the events of the first film (which also mirrors the filmmakers as well). Meanwhile priest Philip Lamont (Richard Burton) is assigned to investigate the death of Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow) after the events of Regan’s exorcism. Soon their path’s cross and Lamont sits in on Regan’s sesh with her shrink’s happy helmet

Movie Review: Along Came the Devil

Ashley (Sydney Sweeney) returns to the hometown where her mother bit the big one and her days and nights were spent living with her abusive ass hat of a father (and his bristling beard). Rekindling a her friendship with her gal pal Hannah (Madison Lintz), Ashley partakes in a sinister seance (aided and abetted by a cell phone app…fuckin’ kids these days, always on fleek and shizz, amirite…) and within a millipube (it’s real…us reviewers know things) has a creep-tacular visitation from Mommy Dearest that leaves her experiencing supernatural shenanigans six (six, six) ways to Sunday! Before long ol’ Ash is in a battle for her very soul, and no one around her is safe from the demons at her door! Man-o-man, Along Came the Devil is one slick-ass supernatural shocker! Featuring beautiful cinematography by Justin Duval, razor sharp editing by Evan Ahlgren, kinetic directing by Jason DeVan, and a surprisingly effective YA take on the whole possession/seance bag courtesy

Movie Review: House on Elm Lake (2017)

Stop me if you’ve heard this one; a young family gets a great deal on a beautiful home due in no small fact that the previous owner murdered his family in cold blood after being acted upon by some sort of demonic force…and wouldn’t you know it, the new patriarch starts hearing the same voices and begins thinking his family would look better inside an oblong box. That’s House on Elm Lake in a nutshell…it’s also The Amityville Horror, so you’ve definitely seen what this film has to offer…so why should you give it your time and/or money? You shouldn’t. It’s boring, tedious, filled with sub-par acting and dodgy effects, and it’s idea of scaring the audience is to amp up the volume of the soundtrack, or have a character scream. But, I’m not the type of guy to not have something positive to say about the film, so here goes; thank the powers that be that this film runs

Movie Review: Veronica is a Fun Supernatural Yarn

Veronica has got it rough all over; since her father died her mother has to work mega long hours leaving V-dawg in charge of her young siblings…when she isn’t attending classes at the local Catholic school that is. Speaking of that school, Veronica and two of her friends get the absolutely dip-shit idea to head down into the building’s basement during a solar eclipse to use a Ouija board to contact their dead loved ones. This goes about as well as one would expected and Veronica suffers some sort of physical episode. This leads to an outre presence making itself known at her home that threatens to destroy Veronica and her entire family. Will our young heroine be able to force those ghost back into whatever nether hell they emerged from, or will she lose herself to the darkness? Veronica is an interesting film for a number of reasons, and this may come a surprise given how familiar the story

Movie Review: Hell’s Kitty is a Disappointing Cameo Packed Horror Comedy

Struggling screen writer Nick has got a problem with pussy…namely his cat angel, a demonically possessed feline that attacks any woman that gets within ten feet of our hero. Desperate Nick tries any method possible (including sleeping with her on a bed strewn with rose petals, an exorcism, and a seance…same things really) to try and get his cat to stop maiming and mutilating the female of the species, but with little success…and to complicate matters the nasty hairball’s victims suffer a form of rotting disease. Will Nick ever be able to tame that wild beast and have a normal love life? Let’s start with the positives…I’m glad Hell’s Kitty was an hour and a half and not two hours. Also some of the make-up effects are descent, and the cameos (though forced) were entertaining enough and included the likes of legends such as Doug Jones (Hellboy, The Shape of Water), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), Kelli Maroney (Night

Movie Review: The Blackcoat’s Daughter will Possess Your Soul!

The students of Bradford Academy are all leaving to spend winter break with their families…everyone except bizarro Kat and Catholic School Rizzo surrogate Rose; ‘cuz their parents apparently give less than two shits about them and fail to show up to spirit them away. The girls are now left alone at the perpetually grey and dour school where they have an uneventful stay until their parents arrive. The end. Okay, that’s complete nonsense as I forgot to mention, there’s some sort of malevolent force haunting the school, so supernatural shenanigans abound six ways to Sunday. Adding to the goings-on is a mysterious woman named Joan who is hellbent for Bradford; though why she wants to get there is unclear at first…but trust me when you find out it’s a real corker! Unlike ol’ Atomica above; The Blackcoat’s Daughter is a slow-burn fright flick done right! Dripping with atmosphere, creeptastic tension (those pregnant pauses!), and off-kilter characters, this film is definitely

Movie Review: J.D.’s Revenge

J.D.’s Revenge begins with a mobster (named J.D. ‘natch) being eliminated in 1940’s New Orleans. Fast forward to the groovy-ass 1970’s and mild mannered student Issac is out on the town with his pals. The gang takes in a hypnotist act with ol’ Issac hopping on stage to volunteer…but instead of quitting smoking, or clucking like a chicken, our hero slowly starts to be possessed by the spirit of J.D. (amid headaches, slaughterhouse imagery, rough sex, and jaunty hat purchasings…and on a side note, his Doctor tells him to smoke some weed and relax…way to be forward thinking movie!). Soon Joltin’ J.D. is completely in command and he begins a murderous plan to even the score with Issac as his unwilling vessel! J.D.’s Revenge is a fun entry in both the blaxploitation and possession genres; it has a likable cast full of familiar faces, with Glynn Turman as Issac giving a great turn going from mild mannered everyman to sadistic

Possessed Man Caught On Video In Brazilian Hospital

On February 27, 2017 a staff member of Miguel Couto Hospital in Rio de Janerio, Brazil recorded footage of hospital staff interacting with a man who had been shot in the face. The other part of the story, he is allegedly suffering demonic possession. According to the Brazilian newspaper Noticianob, the man was brought into the hospital after being shot in the face while high on drugs. But many are saying he was possessed, including the hospital staff. There is no word on exactly who shot him or why. In the footage you can hear staff in the background saying (in Portuguese), “You are not powerful! You are not powerful!” The man responds with “I am better than you. You are corrupted. I am working with Lucifer.” The staff used gurneys and chairs to keep the man at bay. If you believe in the supernatural, the video may lead you to believe that something otherworldly and powerful is at work.
